I agree about the lack of imagination in WRPGs, although World of Warcraft is pretty spectacular. But it's an MMO so I guess it doesn't really count. Also, Fable 2 is quite imaginative.
Still on the fence about FFXIII. I mean, it is a FF game.

That's not sane. I mean, that's impressive, but I want to see what a dev can do with that to make it interesting for more than 10 minutes.
The fights have been nothing more than hitting attack so far but again it's freaking amazing to look at. There have been a ton of cutscenes, it opens up with a whole rebellion taking place, basically all out war. Voice acting is good so far. There is plenty of Japanese quirkiness all over, but it wouldn't be FF without it. Yes all you do is run straight through, like a tube. I can't wait to see more of this tube. Even the menus are slick as hell.
I just played for an hour or so, I just wanted to try it out. I will now force myself to wait till after GoW3, man it will be painful.
Still worth playing I admit. I think I'll pick it up but I kind of want to see how Resonance of Fate will do. But that TRU gift card is tempting me.
Also, I'm hearing a freaking owl outside of my house. An owl! From where I live, we don't have exotic animals like that only raccoons, opossums, but no owls.
Sounds creepy but cool at the same time hearing it hoot. Can't sleep because of it, LOL!
