I just haven't had enough time to post lately. I just try to post a few things here and at the ring of fire, thats about it. If I start looking elsewhere, I end up spending too much time.
LOL @ the games for windows guy. Not hard to understand why PC gamers hate it. Its just more unneeded crap from MS to try and control everyone on THEIR service. And like usual, they made something worse in the process.
Its really no different than another company like EA suddenly trying to require everyone to be on their own service, even for games they don't make. ITs bullshit.
That's a shame. I've been shifting over more pic threads there. There are some sweet Monster Hunter 3 pics.
Anyhow the NPD sales analysis article:
Analysis: Wii, DS Make Up Nearly Half Of 2008's Software Sold
As part of a recent, exclusive NPD analysis, Gamasutra examines system tie ratios and software sales for 2008, finding that games for Nintendo DS and Wii accounted for some 49 percent of all software units sold in the year.
According to Michael Pachter, analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities, around 268 million units of console and handheld software were sold during 2008, up 15 percent from the prior year. On average, 8.5 units of software were sold per second in 2008.
Nintendo revealed in a recent press release that 132 million units of software were sold for its systems during the year, or just over 49 percent of all software units sold in 2008. Of that 132 million, we estimate that over 70 million were for the Nintendo Wii, and most of the remaining 60 million were on the Nintendo DS -- with a million or so on the Game Boy Advance.
The Wii software tie ratio appears to be approaching 6.0 games per system. Incidentally, Pachter noted that the Wii accounted for 37 percent of all software dollars in December 2008, surpassing the record set by the PlayStation 2 in December 2003.
Here's a look at the overall game sales by unit totals, split by hardware manufacturer in 2008, as compiled by Gamasutra from the above information:
Interestingly, Microsoft has often touted the Xbox 360 software tie ratio in its press releases, but declined to do so for December 2008.
While it is often logically dubious to base a conclusion on a lack of information, the absence of a comment from Microsoft and the constant 8.1 tie ratio from September through November leads one to suspect that the system's tie ratio may have remained constant or even dropped slightly in December.
Assuming that the tie ratio did remain constant, Microsoft would have sold around 12 million units of software in December, and in the neighborhood of 48-49 million units of Xbox 360 software for all of 2008, up from around 41 million units in 2007.
According to software sales figures from Sony, it appears that more than 27 million PS3 software units were sold in 2008, or more than double the 12.5 million PS3 software units we estimate they sold in 2007.
With approximately 41 million units of software launch-to-date (LTD), an average 6.0 units of software have been sold per PlayStation 3 system. The remaining 57 million units of software are primarily for the PlayStation 2, with some lesser fraction for the PSP.
----------------------------------------------
Perception is interesting, Sony systems are raking in nearing to double what MS are making on 360. But we always compare one individual system vs the other.
UBISOFT® CELEBRATES 25th ANNIVERSARY OF TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES® WITH LAUNCH OF NEW VIDEO GAME
SAN FRANCISCO – January 26, 2009 – Today Ubisoft announced that it will launch an all-new, original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles® (TMNT®) video game – the first that is not tied to a TMNT® movie, television show or comic book – which will be a four-player action fighting title. The game is being developed by Game Arts, noted for working on the critically acclaimed Super Smash Bros.(TM) Brawl for Wii(TM). Scheduled for release in fall 2009, the video game will be a key event in the year-long "Shell-ebration" of the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles® which, in addition to the video game launch, will include new and exciting products and experiences for TMNT® fans in the U.S. and around the world.
The success of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles® in various media has been sustained over the last 25 years with numerous "bests," including: the best-selling video game on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in 2007; and in the late '80s and early '90s, the No.1-rated Saturday morning TV show in the US; the No.1-rated daily syndicated animated TV strip for children; the No.1 Nintendo Entertainment System(TM) and Game Boy(TM) Advance video game in the world and the No.1 live touring arena show in the U.S.
"We're really excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first TMNT® comic and we have a number of radical 'Shell-ebration' events planned for 2009," said Gary Richardson, CEO of Mirage Studios. "The awesome new video game that Ubisoft will release in 2009 is an important part of celebrating this Turtles milestone with fans around the world."
"There is no better tribute to the Turtles than the creation of a brand-new game that will help to launch the next 25 years of success," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. "It's our pleasure to partner again with Mirage as part of the worldwide birthday celebration for the Turtles."
More details about the game can be found in the January 2009 TMNT® cover story issue of Nintendo Power magazine in the U.S.
So yeah, podcast this weekend guys. Who we getting?
I'd love to get some more new people on there - Punk? Edgey? Steelio? Hell, GG?
I checked out that Pole Big Adventure video, I love that its in 8-bit, with 8-bit cutscenes. We need more 8-bit games. But unlike Mega Man 9, which was awesome, this game looks TERRIBLE. I did not see anything in that video that resembled something like actual design or structure.
Homer I think I can be in the podcast.
Honestly about Indiana Jones, I lost all interest when I heard it was a Wii/PS2 game. Sorry, its just that movie license game on the cheap doesn't seem to be a good mix. They had something interesting with the euphoria demo way back when, now meh.
Yakuza 3 looks incredible, it better come here.
I've been revisiting many of my PS2 games lately while I wait for my 360 to get repaired. Been playing some XBLA games and demos on my other 360 as well. I'm not interested in the Indiana Jones game even though I love the movies. I'm not interested in the deBlob sequel either and I don't know if I can get past the black and white thing and get interested in Mad World either. Really the only Wii games I'm interested in at all are Monster Hunter 3 and the TMNT game. Right now I'm very much in love with the RE5 demo, the game is going to rock. I'm super pumped to get Street Fighter IV, Star Ocean 4, Halo Wars, and of course RE5.
Oh yeah and those Final Fantasy XIII pics looking fuckin' amazing. Man I so can't wait for this game.
Perfectly acceptable. I'm sure if Steelio was on, he'd be making ball jokes too.
Considering PS3's lack of killer exclusives, they'd be foolish to NOT bring it here. With the right marketing this game could be a big hit.
First of all, don't call it Yakuza 3. There's a ton of people who never heard of the franchise....if they see the 3, all that's going to do is make them think "well I've never heard of this and there's already been 2 games, it must suck". Call it Yakuza: GTA of Japan if you have to. Just not Y3.
2nd.....market it as an RPG. It has strong RPG elements and PS3 is sad in the genre so far. Market it as the PS3's first major RPG.
As soon as I read your post I went to amazon to look for cheap mics. They list them cheap then try and rape you on the postage. For me its the difference between buying a mic and getting the next volume in the original TMNT dvd series and turtles wins out everytime.
Krang was an original creation for the TV series I think so if he wasn't part of the comic stable he wont be used.
That's the whole point and what I wanted to discuss. The trailer brings out so many issues. Firstly IF the euphoria driven game is still coming out or has it been cancelled like rumoured? Secondly if the trailer footage was actually from that version or engine or cutscene engine. Third is the question over the release date, spring 09? That's a couple of months away and we've seen nothing on the game. Then there is the fact that zero gameplay was shown in the video, so will it be the wanted graphic adventure game? Then there is confusion over the developer, is it the dreadful A2M? Then the question over the platforms, will be a PS2 port or a Wii game ported to PS2?
Lastly IF the euphoria game is cancelled and IF Lucasarts has whored this game out on the cheap to exploit the licence, should we hate Lucasarts even more for this and Battlefront 3?
Yeah if its the third game in a series nobody knows it's not going to have any impact. I really doubt this game would do well anyway though.

Nice.
Buuuuuuuuut...
WTF is this?! These aren't the turtles I know. This killed any interest.
Oh man I sure hope the Too Human trilogy lives on. Haters be damned I thought Too Human turned out to be a really good game and I had alot of fun with it plus the story was pretty cool and I really want to see it play out.
These are the Turtles that the kids dig now, dontcha know? Maybe the old Turtle skins are in the game as an unlockable.
Though if you must spend mine, might I suggest an alternative?
Microsoft slashed 5000 jobs recentely, Too Human, a commitment to 2 more massive games? That's a tough one. I know that MS is the richest company on earth but it's not a bottomless pit. I think they would put more money eastwards to japan to get more support in anticipation of the next 360. P.S I want Alan Wake this frigging year!!
I saw a pic of the original comics design. Not bad, not sure I like the all white eyes though. There doesn't seem to be the option to switch between designs so far. There is a bit of a con job going on though, making it look like this game is being made by the same team as Smash. Smash had a special team of HAL and Gamearts, all new people cobbled together for the title as well as Sakurai as director. This game has gone from curiosity to little interest for me now. I'm more interested in a VC SNES game of Turtles tournament fighters.
Yeah I get what you mean. Now the engine is done and they already have a plan for the story. How did the first game end? Did you get a sense of completion or was open ended like an Empire Strikes back situation?
Its a shame the trilogy might not be completed if you liked it. I just think it was a bogus plan calling the game out as a trilogy before the first was even a success. Silicon Knights biggest game is like Legacy of Kain or arguably a remake of MGS? I still want Shenmue 3.
This is precious:
" A source close to Sony" has shot down rumours this morning that a touch screen-enabled PSP2 is facing imminent release, calling the internet claims "nonsense".
Speaking to MCV, the mysterious Sony deepthroat went as far as belittling the report on US site IGN, suggesting that perhaps the PSP2 could be "powered by the horns of baby rhinoceroses." It'd save us on charging the battery, we suppose...
"Clearly, being a quiet time of year, many, what we thought to be credible websites, are making up stories about PSP2, and how it allows you to teleport across the globe, travel through time, and will be powered by the horns of baby rhinoceroses," the 'source' said.
"Hopefully, you can sense a mild tone of sarcasm, which should hopefully indicate how 'on the money' IGN are.
"Needless to say, we don't comment on rumour or speculation, but this is nonsense." Funny that, we thought he clearly just did comment...
Sony has since been in touch to tell us that "no plans for a PSP2 are underway." More 'baby rhinocerose' quotes though, please.
Or maybe it's MCV making up stories just to play with our minds? It's all too much for a Tuesday.
