The restaurant was painted with movie stars and scenes from movies. The tagine was "Where the stars hangout."
That restaurant has two sister places: Brass Balls Saloon and Big Pecker's Bar and Grill.
They all serve the same food. It is weird that Bad Ass Cafe and Brass Balls Saloon are actually in the same location, Bad Ass Cafe is just upstairs that is the only thing separating them.
Big Pecker's Bar and Grill is 70 blocks north.
I haven't had the best luck with restaurants. Sometimes you have a great meal, sometimes the same dish isn't as good as last time.
Mediterranean Bar & Grille here in Mass. Great service, hot ladies, amazing food of all kinds from, as the name says, countries of the Mediterranean. Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Spanish etc.
They have an awesome outdoor area for the summer. Great place to take a date or to go with friends.
California Dreaming never disappoints. Good, marinated meats and incredible salads. There's a chain called Copper River Grill, which has a similar menu.
These are making me salivate.
My favorites of all time, well one is Mother India in Costa Mesa, CA. It's a greasy spoon place with shit atmosphere, but the food was always perfect, the indian beer fresh and of good value and the staff overwhelmingly professional.
I used to eat there, I kid you not, at least twice a week.
My other favorite restaurant appears to have closed. It was a 24 hour diner on the beach in Seal Beach, CA. They had the best gravy fries and breakfast food (and good beer Red Seal). Complimentary Mrs. Dash on every table and "very presentable" always female serving staff in traditional diner uniforms. Also.. not a chain.
You could go there anytime and order any item customized, then it was a 40 second walk to the beach. Perfect for first dates, hangovers, early morning re-charges, post-jog breakfast. No primadonna customers either.
In high school I had pretty refined tastes, so Waffle House was always my favorite place to eat. I grew up in Atlanta, and in the metro area there were 144 different locations. You could pretty much drive a mile in any direction and find a Waffle House. If you didn't like that one, just drive a little further and you'll find another. I can't even imagine how many there are today.
To this day I will argue vehemently with anyone who tries to tell me the food isn't good. The waffles are fantastic. The hashbrowns are god-tier good. Get them scatters, smathered, covered, and chunked if you want them right (aka with onions, cheese, and ham). Sweet tooth acting up? Get the chocolate pie. The juke boxes are always good and if you want to piss off other people play one of the songs written about the Waffle House. And best of all you can always see someone else eating there to make you feel better about your own life.
These days I'm sadly without a favorite restaurant. About a year ago, my favorite place closed down. It was a little Hawaiian cafe called Hawaiin Grindz. It was simple but amazing Hawaiian food. Musubi, loco moco, garlic sagoy chicken and the like. If you went earlier in the day you could get a cup of kona coffee (best coffee in the world) and malasadas (little sugary pastries). It was all the world's most perfect comfort food. Sadly they're gone... and life is just a little more dark.
Waffle House was our place to go to when we wanted a place to hangout at 1am. I love the patty melt and scattered, covered and chunked hash browns. I was afraid Bert's Chili had Bert in it.
My all time favourite restaurent was actually an asian food court in Colindale.
They set it up like the far east with small stalls and you could mix and match what dishes you wanted from different stalls.
It was cheap, the food was authentic and often delicious. They also did takeways so you could have an awesome lunch and then pick something up for the evening too. They had the full array of asian style juices and drinks. And then it was in an Asian center that had other shops in it to browse and shop in.
They my brothers evil asshole company had it shut down and converted into apartments. Even when they promised stall holders they would accommadate them after said apartments were built. Of course this never happened and all the small business owners either shut down or moved away to gods knows where.
Yes, my bro is that much of an asshole.
Did your bro actually choose to do this or just the corporation that he works for?
His colleague had the account. But I blame him.
Should have fought for the food!
Texas Roadhouse is my favorite.I go at least twice a month. BBQ Chicken and Ribs with loaded Baked Potato, and a 16 ounce frozen margarita with an extra kicker. Yummo!

Is that a chain?

That sounds awesome. I've never seen anything like that.
Texas Roadhouse is a chain, it's pretty good though we haven't been there in years.
robio said:Oh one more good one to add. When I was a teenager in Atlanta, my go-to restaurant for any date I went on was an Italian restaurant called Scalini's, which I can only assume is Italian for "we put garlic in everything including the water". It had a really nice atmosphere and in that respect was perfect for dates, but god you would leave the place reeking of garlic. It really goes a long way in explaining my success with women as a teenager.
When I was a teenager we used to go out to cheap, very cheap Italian restaurants and feel like grown-ups. $1 slices, iceberg and carrot salads with vinegar. The food was terrible in retrospect, but the place had table clothes (albeit plastic coated) and that made it sophisticated.

Many Italian restaurants are really just a single step up from fast-food places. It's usually no more than a dollar more, but that extra dollar per meal buys you a table cloth, low lighting, a fake flower in a vase at the table, and plastic cups instead of paper ones. My first date was at place like that called Cristo's. Worst pizza on earth. In retrospect, I would have been better off going to McDonalds, but it wasn't until date #2 that I discovered that.
On a related note regarding favorite restaurants, has anyone noticed that the very best Chinese restaurants are always ghetto/hood Chinese places? Sure there are better fancy ones, but if you just want simple New York style Chinese take-out, there seems to be a indirect relation between the quality of the neighborhood and the quality of the food. The worse the neighborbood, the better the food. When I lived in Dallas, a girl I was dating took me out to this Chinese place that must have been an old Burger King with all the tables removed. Other than a little light from behind the counter and in the kitchen, it was all lit by a single low watt lightbulb. It might you feel like you might not walk out if you walk in. But I'll be damned if it wasn't some of the best Chinese I've ever had.
One thing about Chinese food, it's the only place that you'll see people of many different cultures and races. Chinese food unites everyone.
What place did you keep going back to time and time again, if not just for the food, but for the time.
Could be a high-school hangout, a current favorite or just any place you have run into over time.
Actual names and cities are appreciated.
