Another angle is having the option to tag posts as different things, but that may be a bit much. Perhaps a select number of optional tags, or you can vote for one out of a list. Just make things a little more interactive and fun than an up/down system.
Just an idea at this point, no particular plans or preference.
If folks don't bother to use the up down system I don't see them taking the time to do much more complicated things like add a tag or re-write someone's post.
the up/down is good enough in my opinion, maybe we need to add a points incentive to get people to use it?

That's actually the point. Ok, well some of what I do is for making the site more affable to expansion, the context-specific things are to make it more, for a lack of a better term, rewarding to vote. Up/Down isn't going to get used much here, because it's more appropriate to a hostile environment. We're so damned friendly, we never want to vote down, in which case voting up is often irrelevant.
Voting something "Helpful" for example, is more specific and semantic. Voting something WTF is good fun for everyone
Technically I never said one way or another whether or not your score involves voting, but I'll go ahead and say that no, there is currently no scoring incentive for votes, because it's more exploitable than other things on the site, though I have waivered on it. With the semantic method, it would feel more appropriate to include scoring with that as well.
Again, conceptual, and definitely a point to consider as complexity does typically inhibit participation. The key would be to make it clearly understandable and intuitive to do, as well as clearly visible with each post any votes made and/or the majority opinion on the post shown (i.e. if 3 people vote Informative and 1 votes Troll, the majority is Informative).
Any other objections, suggestions, modifications on the concept, definitely love to hear them.

True. I've probably only voted something down once or twice. that'll change once the community grows though, It'll become a way to tell someone that 'that's not cool man'
Oh, did you ever think about my idea of giving mouse over descriptions to the plus and minus? so people know what they are?

Just when i was going to ask who WOULDN'T want to see the avatars.
Word association suggestions. For use for the auto check box when putting in a link and title in the update process.
Media: video, vid, pics, screens, screenshots, scans, scan, trailer, commercial
Impressions, review, preview, hands on
This is a big one, just getting it down in writing for future thoughts.
How about a Picture version of GGWeekly? Give the news posters the option of including and image url and use that to augment the headlines. The text GGweekly could still be the default, but you could link to the picture alternative.

What checkbox?
aspro said:How about a most popular ever page? That shows the most clicked through stories of the month, year and all-time?
The reason I've kept the stats on the click stats relatively low-key is that due to the low-traffic nature of the numbers, it's trivially manipulated. Ordering by most popular in a given week is just a moderately interesting and convenient feature. Ordering by most popular all-time would effectively be meaningless. There are various expansions in statistics I do want to implement and was actually thinking about earlier today, such as numbers by country, comments, news posts etc.

Yeah, that's not really going to be a good indicator, anyway. The bigger stories we hear about from a lot of locations (NPD, for example, people post it right in GG Weekly, and it's immediately everywhere anyway). Though, it's a start.
To illustrate, the top four stories:
-Famitsu scans (FF, Phoenix Wright)
-Club Nintendo Reward Goes Retro
-Famitsu Shows Sexy Sylvia from NMH Paradise
-Microsoft to buy EA?
I guess we know why tabloids are still popular
The big news of the year would be the price cuts, DSi, PSPgo, Modern Warfare's insane sales, all the bannings and all the company closures.

Three of those are mine -- I tend to write the most salacious headlines. Hey, while we are at it, you announced that we are "on" Twitter now, and Jamie mentioned it yesterday -- what exactly is the vgpress putting out?

It mirrors GG Weekly, and I'll occasionally put out an additional inane tweet. Primarily it's aimed as a vector for further site exposure.
