I think I may have already made a blog about this before, but what the hell is wrong with the people who write spam email in recent years. You think you would at least mention a product, or at least put a hyperlink SOMEWHERE in there... but nooo... you just want to send me cryptic madlib. Is there some secret file hidden in the background, downloading onto my computer? What the hell are you wasting your resources on this for Hrm

On a more technical level, I can see one way for this to be useful.  Send out prodding emails that people are more likely to open than generic spam and include an essentially invisible image embedded.

If the image address is actual a PHP script with a unique ID including the email address it was sent to, it can document who actually opened the spam to confirm legitimate addresses for real spam that would also be larger and take more processing to send.

Yoda's technical description is the reason why I never open emails to which I don't recognize the sender; they're immediately deleted instead. Granted, I didn't know those exact details that he mentioned, but I figured there had to be some nefarious reason why they send such things.
