Let's say Nintendo comes with a new system in about 2-3 years. Do you think they will keep the same basic controller?

They have never done so in the past, even the NES -> SNES was a big deal at the time (do you remember how blown away your were by the shoulder buttons?).

The Wii has bene so succesful I can see them not wanting to mess with the formula, but then, this is Nintendo we are talking about, and they walk to the beat of their own drum (see exhibit A):

Here are the others for reference:

That controller is so big she has to use two hands.

I'm sure their next controller will be an evolution of the current Wii controlller, which will have MotionPlus built-in. I hope they'll include a rechargable battery next time, and a wireless Nunchuck would be awesome. I'd also like a stronger but less noisy Rumble in both the Remote and Nunchuck, and a higher quality speaker would nice too.

While we have nothing to announce at the moment, I will say that our next controller will be so unique, so revolutionary, so mind blowingly awesome that no one could ever possibly imagine, let alone guess, what it will be.

I was specifically responding to Aspro73's question regarding the controller that will be used in our next generation console, not our current generation Wii.

I think the form will remain the same but the tech will change. Not only will the nunchuk be wireless but it will be as accurate as the wiimote with Motionplus built into both.

Other than that I can't see big changes really. Perhaps internally they may change to something like ultrasonic tech to get accurate positioning without having to worry about light sources, IR or cameras.

I think that they may try to incorporate wiispeak into a future sensor bar.
