A bit of the third party problem is coming from the under powered hardware. Now at this moment it is on par with the old gen and those games are selling fine but maybe the damage was done from last gen with the Wii missing out on everything and having the worst versions. Soon the Wii U will have the worst versions of all those games and what is even worse in the eyes of many, no true online infrastructure in place. The way the Wii U is designed and how Nintendo handles online is a big reason why third parties wont sell.

But the truth is the Wii U was dead (in terms of it being a success like wii) the second it became clear that the big idea around the system was nowhere near as innovative nor interesting as the Wiimote. The price finished it off.  I believe there is no righting this ship, I think the best nintendo could hope for is 25 million worldwide. If that is not enough for them then its time to jump ship and try something new.

Nintendo, oh poor Nintendo. 3DS is doing great but it did worst this Nov than last Nov and that is counting all the discounts, 2DS sales and the launch of  two huge games, Pokemon and Zelda. Zelda sold 400k, very nice.

3ds is doing better thins november than it did last november. You posted the numbers in your opening post!

Worst of all look at that CoD percentage, 0.33% of sales on the Wii U. There is no reason at all for a port on Wii U, its pathetic, its embarrasing, it is POINTLESS. Why should third parties bother.

The 3rd parties did not bother when the Wii and DS were having record sales, they will not bother now. Third parties do not want to develop for Nintendo unless they absolutely have to.

Bingo. The Wii U as a concept is shit. The hardcore do not want it and it is too complicated for the casualz. The casual gamers did not leave nintendo for apple. Nintendo simply abandon them. The Wii U goes againt everything the Wii stood for.

They will ride it out. Finishing the Wii-U before its time would be suicide. No one would buy Nintendo's next console if they think Nintendo will drop it if it does not sell.

  4. NBA 2K
  5. Madden NFL

So if Nintendo released a console at a similar price and power as PS4 it would be selling much better and have better support? Gamecube says hello.

That sentiment is wrong, it's a woefully simplistic opinion you shouldn't perpetuate.

What games are selling fine? I thought the whole argument centered around U versions of multiplats not selling? Unless you're talking 1st party games.

I mostly agree with this.

The difference being that Wii U is a capable machine, capable of beautiful visuals and epic open worlds. Wii versions of HD games felt like more of a comprimise. Also don't forget that U versions of most games have been outsourced to B-teams and not built from the ground up with the best developers and hardware in mind. That list of ports includes Splinter Cell, Batman, Mass Effect, COD and Assasins Creed - B teams, hell, C teams. When developers put something into it, rewrite their code you see better results, the Goblin Menace couldn't run on 360/PS3 according to Frozenbyte and NFS MW U is significantly enhanced in almost every respect outside of geometry.

Nintendo gamers don't care much about online, but at least it works and it's free. Add up your PSN price x 7 years add that to your overall console costs. It may be worth it to you, but others mileage may vary. I keep receiving online invites in game for co-op online Splinter Cell, which I reject.

You're right that it is hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice. Kinect 2 is hardly inspirational as the big idea of X1 - is it not seen as the big idea? Why not? It's an expensive mandatory peripheral bundled with every system, like the upad. And the X1 price is hiked up $90 because of it. X1 is also weaker than PS4, having worse versions of games. 720p versions of games running at 1080p on PS4. But it's not doomed and panned and subject to mass bail outs?

If cross gen games are running at 720p on 360/PS3/U and X1 how much of an incentive is there to upgrade? We upgrade because the industry deems it so, they steer the ship we follow. They decided, way before U sales started sucking ass, to not provide decent support for the console and this is after Nintendo just sold 100 million home consoles.

What big idea does PS4 have? Video sharing?

It means that if one doesn't want to see another 5 years of bullshit franchises domination, there are always other options. Just as it was in the beginning, it shall be in the end.

PC gaming, the alpha and the omega.

About the 3DS numbers, I have been honestly wondering where the hell I got that from. Someone on gaf said something like that, I cant find it though. Maybe it was a comparison to the first year.

GG what I was trying to say is that the underpowered wii u is going to be a problem. But I knew that for now someone would bring up that its still on par if not slightly better than the past gen games. And those past gen games like CoD, BF, GTA are still selling like crazy, just not on wii U. So what happens in a year or two when the graphics gap occurs again, most 3rd parties simply wont even bother making a wii u port if a 360 or PS3 version isnt being made.

The "gap" gets smaller with every gen-jump, though, doesn't it? I know that PS2 versions of a few games were being made until only a couple of years ago. You're totally right, of course, the "backwards" Wii U version will suffer until they stop making the 360/PS3 versions, but I would think that the compressing of games can't be that horrendous. Then again, I say that as someone with no programming knowledge and someone who doesn't have to handle a game's budget in these lean times.
