Security Overview - An Audio Blog

Excellent info as usual, Yoda. I'm always looking for ways to improve my own computer's security, and to have a better understanding on how some of this stuff works. I'll certainly be reading all of the content on this page. I listened to your audio blog, and it's a great overview.
Sandboxie is a great program; I always use it when surfing the net. I've completely given up on IE, and just use Firefox and Opera. Unfortunately, my family refuses to give IE up. I've installed latest versions of Opera, Firefox and Sandboxie on my dad's and sister's computers, but they still use to IE. They also complain that Sandboxie is too difficult to use, which boggles my mind; perhaps I'm just used to it? I did manage to trick my dad into using Firefox by changing its orange icon to IE's icon. He figured it out quickly, and sent me an angry email about it later.
I guess it's hard for some people to change their habits, even though both of them have gotten Trojans on their computers in the past six months. To my knowledge, I've never come across any kind of virus on my computers. Being paranoid does have its benefits, I guess.

Next time your need the Firefox IE6 skin. You can set programs to run automatically in Sandboxie so they literally don't have to do anything. Oh well.
Thanks, aspro. Yes, this one was geared towards the layman -- the hardest part was continually stopping and having to rephrase in non-tech jargon.

Yeah, I put in that code to autostart Sandboxie whenever they click their internet browser shortcuts. It's the "Whenever I download something, I have to click okay to move it from the sandbox to my desktop?" that really throws them off. "You mean, I have to click okay . . . again? No, that's not for me!"

You can set up folder exemptions. For example, have it so anything downloaded to My Documents is downloaded as if you weren't using Sandboxie. I have a Downloads folder that I did this with.

Sorry if I was a little scatterbrained, it was mostly off-the-cuff which was probably not such a good idea. I missed a couple things as a result, but it goes over the necessities.
