Ah, maybe first time through. I got really good and hardly ever die after that. Maybe a couple of bosses would be sticking points though.

Sure you get much better but you still die, have you honestly ever finished the game without dying once (no special weapons). I highly doubt that. On the other hand old RE games, I can do it all the time, its actually really simple, carry health and ammo and you are good.
The old RE games were meant to be beaten without dying, that was some of the requirements to get the best ranks. RE4 will kill you cause the enemies are a lot harder and cause it takes combat skill to get around. it doesn't matter how much health or ammo you have, some enemies or situations will mess you up in RE4 cause its an actual challenge.

I've only played through it once, but after a certain point (Ie. when I got used to the game) I honestly can't remember dying, except on a boss or two. If I played through it again I could probably do it.
Yeah but a game is easier if it does allow for generous checkpoints and infinite continues right? So RE4 is easier?
The older games are harder because of the fixed perspective and tank like controls.

You're better than me. I haven't finished a single one of the Resident evil games.
Maybe I should go reinstall RE3...

All games RE games offer infinite continues in a way, when you save its there forever.
The point is which games take more skill, which one has more danger of dying, there is absolutly no question that its RE4. Its so funny to see the ways different gamers view this cause you get into what some believe to be difficulty. I guess some find item management hard, or the maze like progression of older games to be more challenging on a puzzle like basis which it is. But actually getting through the games are a piece of cake as long as you have the equipment, no enemies in the old RE games really put up a challenge. On the other hand, you can have a ton of items stockpiled and if you are not careful you will die cause the enemies in RE4 are actually difficult, they actually offer a challenge.
Can you get by RE4 without dying, I'm sure you can but you have to be very careful to do it. I play the game recklessly, part of that is cause I do have instant checkpoints everywhere, I kind of like dying so that I can replay the same section and do it a different way. RE4 keeps me on my toes a hell of a lot more than any of the previous 6 RE games. For instance I have never went into a room in any of the old RE games and been like "damn that room with the hunters is too hard to get through", no you just bring the proper gun and ammo and you can kill them in two shots without them ever getting close. Now in RE4 I can think of many rooms where its like "oh crap, its the room with the two garradors, this is going to be hell" (holy crap that room caused me so many deaths the first time I played). Or that grand hall when you first enter the castle, enemies come from every where and you have to protect Ashley all the while, no places to hide cause all areas are open from two directions. Or the damn helicopter section, with those enemies on the turrets, if you are not careful one clean shot of that could kill you. RE4 is filled with tough sections, the only difficult aspect of any of the previous RE games was maybe the final boss, and that is only if you did a horrible job of stockpiling items, which I dont, every time I finish a RE game I have so much health and ammo I dont know what to do with it.

PC version? Well there's your problem...

Wasn't THAT bad. Annoying, but it could be worse.
At least there aren't any fucking texture problems like the PC versions of RE4 and MGS2...
I dunno Vader, I find RE4 quite easy. I was surprised when I saw that video showing all the ways you could get killed. As long as I keep a shotgun next to me I can just kneecap most guys or face shoot and run up and clear them. If anyone gets close I just shotgun them to the chest. The only times I have problems really are those two guys with masks and hit points on the back.
Krauser too. I tend to use an upgraded pistol most of the time so I always have stockpiled ammo for the bigger weapons. Which means I rarely get in trouble. I use the environment to my advantage for instance, stay on a high point and your shots will knock guys off to the ground, same for ladders, just whack a mole them as they climb up. It's not a problem for me.

But did you die in the old RE games, if so why?
I guess its because of what you said:
"I guess some find item management hard, or the maze like progression of older games to be more challenging on a puzzle like basis which it is. But actually getting through the games are a piece of cake as long as you have the equipment, no enemies in the old RE games really put up a challenge."
I found myself low on ammo, on herbs, lost with sticky controls and rigid camera angles, being chased by some ass that ripped my head off. I didn't find RE2 or Code Veronica that hard, but I died a few times on REmake, RE0 and 3 because of Nemesis-dildo-head.
While we're on the topic of RE, has anyone seen the movies? Not so much Degeneration, but all the hollywood movies where some Mary Sue is the lead character?
For some strange reason, I caught the last half hour of Extinction, and I could not BELIEVE what I saw. Everything that wasn't only a zombie movie, but everything that's not even related to Resident Evil!
I'd go into more detail, but I risk spoiling it for people who may have an interest in watching the film.
But I leave with this. They made Wesker a PUSSY.
Its only easier cause it has checkpoints every room. RE4 is a much harder game. Imagine if you had to start over at the beginning of each subchapter when you died. Most of you would be cursing the game to hell and back cause its so frustratingly hard.
