Ugh, came out kinda blurry right?
What I love about this game is that the environments are all bespoke. The walls for instance, you dont see any repeated textures. Its not like most games that have a brick wall so they create a brick tile and overlay it endlessly over a wall.
This game they like created the wireframe and then just let the artists paint out, individually the whole environment. I mean look at the freaking wall detail in the first and last pic. There are no shaders, but its just masterfully drawn and looks beautiful.
This is why next gen graphics dont wow me that much. Back then there were like two games that really stood out graphically head and shoulders above the rest, Half Life 2 on PC and RE4 on GC.
RE4 for me still holds up against RE5, the only difference is that RE5s graphics hold up, close up, whilst RE4 textures, if you inspect them closely are less detailed, almost muddy. But you dont play a game walking up to walls and inspecting how detailed the textures are.
The face detail and animation are still superb, the realtime cutscene engine has a wonderful dynamism which we usually associate with "next gen" the lighting effects are peerless, fire especially.
Love this game.
SDTV forever.

Yeah, why are they so blurry?
I has more pics. Will post laters.
Oh wait...
Looks beautiful on a huge ass SDTV. My inlaws have a big CRT on their TV room, I was amazed. Now I want one, trouble is...I don't have room for it. Lol.

LOL
I meant SDTV with this particular game, not that I want to keep them forever and not have all TVs be HD eventually.
You should try picking up a small SDTV on ebay or something like that. Those pics upstairs are from a 14" one, I have a 32" one too. But when that packs up, I may cry.
Look at the last pic The lighting, the colours.
And the detail in this pic too. I wont be able to post any more shots till I play it again at the weekend.

Yes I know that, I was trying to explain what I said in my earlier post.

Two of them are in the bedrooms, and the third one is just lying around because I have no room for it. Whenever I get to buy a house, first thing I'll do is set up a gaming room to buy a 37" CRT mammoth TV for my SD systems.
What happens to the other 3 then?
Ravenprose said:I want a 32" CRT HDTV that stores used to sell years ago. It's the best of both worlds for gaming since they can display both SD and HD signals just fine, unlike the fixed-pixel displays we have now. Unfortunately, they weight a lot; around 300+ lbs.
I don't understand why HDTVs dont just offer the option to display an SD picture in its native size. Sure you'd have borders top and bottom of the screen most likely but when the price of TVs is low these days and people have 42" screens, it's not a bad option.
If it's a choice between ASS scaling and smaller picture I would at least like to be able to choose.

Hmm, I never thought about that before. That's a very good idea.

Dunno, really. I'll probably put them in weird places. One in the bathroom to play DVDs while in the john, in the kitchen, maybe I'll trade all three for a big one.

Last night I couldn't sleep, matress was killing me. So I played RE4 for a couple of hours. I had my camera next to me so I decided to try and snap some pics to see what it came out like. You cant find decent screenshots of this game, or many GC games because of the way you had to capture images from the GC hardware.
There were a lot of pics I had to discard, because I zoomed the camera so close you could see the scanlines of my TV and other pics the camera light reflected off the TV screen and gave a weird rainbow effect.
Bear in mind that this isn't even off a flatscreen tv, so its kinda warped at the edges.
I might take some more pics tonight.
