I wonder why GT took the videos down?

Might be because of that bug near the end where he slashes an opponent to throw him up, but he just stays still, then after a second he suddenly shows up in the air. Maybe they wanted to fix that first and redo that part of the video (or replace it with something else). That, or GT broke some embargo date by accident.

So what do you think the chances are of an HD port of this game?

I think because its stylised visually and because PS3 is getting this Arc controller, Ubisoft will port it.

They are doing Wii versions of Ghost Recon future and Forgotten sands, so it seems they want to be spread across platforms as much as possible. Vandenberge seems like he's pushing for it.

The producer:

"I see a lot of developers treating wii like a kids platform. And thus not giving it their best teams, not giving it their best effort, they're not making games that they love and they really want to play. And the exceptions to that, games like Madworld, the Conduit, Dead Space, the games that really seem to come from the heart and soul - in each of those cases you could see that there were some very strange market forces in play that would have caused those games to fail even if they weren't on the Wii"

- Jason Vandenberghe

I like what he's saying here.

Although I don't think its market forces here, I think the games had bad design decisions that limited the commercial viability of the titles. Except for Conduit which was just plain average.

Dunno if that's butt kissing us, but at least it makes sense unlike others. And yeah I think a port is highly likely, but hey, it's just gonna be a port, not very significant, like the port of the first No More Heroes. That, or a sequel.

Not for Natal though, for Arc. I really don't see how it could work for Natal. Hold the controller on your left hand and wave your right to slash? The left hand won't have access to enough buttons really (unless you let go of the stick to use the d-pad as button input, which isn't ideal), not to mention it would be awkward to aim with your right hand yet shoot with your left, etc. Assuming Natal is even capable of tracking movements like that, like the orientation of your hand that the Wii and Arc need gyroscopes for, just by "looking" at it, I have my doubts about that.

Of course, I think some of it will depend on the sales. Ubisoft will probably send the game to die from what we've seen so far, but if by some miracle, even with little marketing, it manages to get close to a million, I think they might reconsider the franchise's future as very possible on Wii. A lot of this will depend on the game's final quality, which I'm not fully convinced of yet. If it's really good it may gain sales momentum from word of mouth, good scores, etc, that will work against the little marketing effort perhaps. If it's a mediocre game, then it will have neither marketing, nor word of mouth, and flop easier.

What's funny is I'm sure most outlets out there will both a) try and trash Red Steel 2 as a game, and yet b) try and trash Wii as a platform unsuitable for core games by bringing up Red Steel 2 as an example. Just like they did with The Conduit, basically contradicting their points, half the time slamming it for not having good games, the other have using those bad games as examples of the platform's sales failings, like those games deserved better sales. It's really weird how dumb the gaming press appears often.

Yeah Natal seems freaky, I dont see how it would work with a FPS unless you use the standard pad and just lean to lean out of corners or some weirdness. An arc port would be more likely.

I dont mind ports at all I think that its great to get a game out to as many people as possible. What I dont like is when the timing of an announcement impacts on the sales of the game - on the platform it was originally made for.

It's a shame Red Steel 2 is launching so long after the first game, I mean its got that counting against it, as well as the fact that the first game got a critical mauling. I also think that the cel-shading might hurt its chances. I'm going to have to check out if there are any more recent Q and As on the Ubi forum to see what kind of marketing support is expected.

I read that with Dead Space Extraction and even Silent Hill, before the games released the publishers downgraded expectations and cut marketing spends significantly. Analysts said that they didn't market Dead SPace Extraction at all.

That is true, it was also reported that Shattered Memories got a very limited in numbers launch too. And yeah, Ubisoft cut their sales expectations for the game to half recently (500k) so they either plan not to market it much, or it turned out really bad like the original and they think that will affect the sales potential.

Yeah on the quality front, I'm not seeing enough variation to get me excited yet. I'm sure it will be solid, but AAA? Ugh, nothing so far seems to scream that.

And yeah, it's ridiculous the games the press use as examples to prove their point about the Wii failing. Madworld is suppossed to be a blockbuster sales success? Come on, let's see a majority of ultraviolent black and white films succeeding and not just Sin City.

The producer is quite funny. Nyaa

Are enemies reacting to hit zones? For instance, do headshots count or not? [Fender0, driveby012]

From Jason Vandenberghe, Creative Director
quote:
Oh, they count. In fact, you can buff up your combat score with headshots. Quite satisfying, that – I prefer to hold the Wiimote hip-shooter style, take careful aim, and BLAM!

[ASIDE: Usually, when I do this in meetings, I shout about how much of a badass I am. “Didja SEE THAT? Didja SEE THAT? Bad ***.” The team usually just nods and smiles… although I’m getting the impression that after several months of this they might be getting tired of my antics. Pity them.]

We also have leg shots – shooting an enemy in the leg is a great way to drive him to his knees… and thus set him up for a finish move…

Yes I am. They delayed it and missed the Christmas window to polish it and they wanted to do it right so much they postponed work on the sequel until motionplus was shown.

New screens in this French article. And a new video. Also, those GT videos have returned, with the bug still in, so it must have been some embargo date that caused them to remove them for a while.

Nice pics. Thank god that there seems to be some visual diversity in the environments, even if just relates to simple things like colour tones. You can't really judge the visuals on the character shots because the cutscenes aren't real time.

Just noticed, upgrading weapons and stuff. Gun shop, that is cool. So I guess you do quests to earn cash and upgrade weapons.

This preview has 60 fps videos which show the game's true beauty (most flash videos are 30 fps, these aren't).

Plenty of previews as well. IGN, G4, Eurogamer, Kotaku, all positive. But those 60fps videos from gamersyde in my last comment win hands down. Joystiq has a few paragraphs filled with inaccuracies and insane complaints. Sigh. Shit, I'm skeptical about the game's final quality myself, but that dude is being way absurd.
