What do you mean over reacting Aspro?

I think that this is the same way that the original DS was announced and the same way they introduced motionplus.

It's like a pre-emptive strike I guess.

Because the M+ is nothing to worry about.  Ninty has it made in the shade.

Remember in 2008 the rumours were that Sony and MS were going to show their motion controllers at E3, so Nintendo showed off motionplus a few days before E3. So I guess the early reveal was a reaction. They didn't know that it would be a whole year later that the move to motion would happen.

I'm convinced Nintendo won't just bring out a more powerful DS with this new tech. I wonder how powerful it'll be, but since it'll be cart-based again, I'm guessing slightly more powerful maybe almost like the PSP, which is fine by me.

All I'm worried about are these things:

Price.

How much is this thing going to be? Hope it's $150 like the DS has been, although it might be $179.99. I really don't think Nintendo would sell this at $200, or worse, $250 like the amazing successful PSP Go! Nyaa

The games.

I need to be convinced that the games are more than just a "Look, it's now in 3D!" gimmick. 3D is cool but it needs to be more for me. Although we did criticize the DS when it first came out as nothing more than a gimmick and look what happened there. But that was different because the touch screen introduced brand new ways of playing games. What can 3D do other than making games look cooler visually?

But all Nintendo has to do is make a Zelda or Pokemon game in 3D and I'm there. Imagine playing Pokemon with 3D battles! GASP

I know I wrote that blog about getting too old for Pokemon but if Nintendo does something amazing with the 3D thing with the series, I'll definitely bite! That'd be enough to get me interested again.

Lot's of potential with the 3DS. I trust Nintendo will pull off their magic again but it'll take some patience until we see the flood of great games. The DS took almost a full year until it finally took off.

I definitely think Nintendo will have games that rely on the 3d - like that headtracking dsi demo that everyone is looking at now. Can't play that game without that function. Third parties probably will be all over the place with it. Like the touchscreen.

If they put 2 cameras in it and allow you to take stereoscopic pics - that would be a nice litlle gimmick.

You had the hard news for breakfast, so how's about some less official, but still pretty robust, fodder for brunch? Asahi in Japan offers the first word on how the 3DS achieves its 3D-ness by suggesting that the new portable game machine with feature a parallax barrier LCD from Sharp. The tech has apparently already been deployed in a few cellphones over there and is described as "unsuitable" for large-screen TVs. This is corroborated by Nikkei, which suggests that the screens on the new device will be smaller than 4 inches diagonally, placing it closer to the DSi than the 4.2-inch DSi XL / LL. Other news from the latter source include so-called 3D control stick(s), though it's not entirely clear whether this'll be anything massively new or just a pair of analog nubs for us to push around. Either way, Nintendo is said to have secured patents for the new control methodology in Japan late last year. The Nikkei article also mentions improvements in WiFi transfers and battery life, as well as a new vibration function. Now that we've got all that out of the way, can someone please tell us if this thing has Tegra inside or not?

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

Good stuff. They said we'd all be shocked and awed by the graphics card when we found out what it is.  Hitachi also has those screen in existing phones (according to giantbomb).

But I hear that because the system will have to render pics for each eye that its double the pixels and so has a performance hit.

...So why do people care about potential "performance hit" (basing it on speculation about what technology it might use no less, rather than anything tangible) before we even know the specs?

 Because speculation is interesting? Nyaa

It's fun to wonder what it is and all that. I can't wait for official specs before speaking about it. Do you remember prior to the Wii's official unveiling, all the crazy speculation for like months and months before that? It was fun.

I'm actually more interested in the "gamecube-like" graphics of the system more than the 3d gimmickry.  I see 3D as being like touch was with the DS (that is to say, it's a great way to get attention for the system and draw in new users).  How many more days till E3 (rhetorical)?

Just because it has the power of a GC doesn't neccesarily mean it will have the graphics of it. I hear that with 3D it may have to render everything twice for each eye.

Well, I just hope that the 3D portion then not a requirement for every game.
