My perfect Fallout game.

I love New Vegas and as much as I LOVE the open world and the quests, the action gets repetitive. Fallout's (I am refering Fallout 3 and NV when I say Fallout) action is still very much rooted in RPG conventions of your stats versus the enemies stats. Most encounters in the world have you facing off against 2 or more enemies that come at you from a distance or simply shoot at you. Basically you shot back and hope they die before you die, that is basically it. And if you are any bit decent your guy will have so much health items and badass weaponry that you will win almost every fight. That is my problem with it, why cant it be based on MY skill, my skill as a gamer, not how much power my gun has or how much armor they have.  I understand then it wouldn't be an RPG... exactly!

Why do I think Mass Effect 2 is one of the greatest games I have ever played, cause its an action game that kept the major storytelling and exploration elements of an RPG and mixed it with actual action game mechanics. It reduced the RPG elements to its core, only what was needed. Do I really need to be carrying around 200 items of junk, no I dont. Do I need 30 different categories of stats, NO

I think Fallout could even be done better. My favorite parts of the game is when the game gives you options in combat, or scenarios where you can plan an attack. I like setting mines, planning my weapon load out and using stealth kills. That is when the game is at its best, not when you are in a stat duel, but when you are playing like an action game. The game needs way more well designed action setpieces, game areas that allow the player to have fun and experiment with combat. To allow you to use the enviornment to your advantage, sadly most of the game is flat or in you are in buildings or caves its a corridor shooter. Add cover, add ladders, add windows I can jump through. Make it so that if I am at a disadvantage I can quickly jump into a building for cover and use that as a defensive postition. If you are in a disadvantage your only real option is to run backwards while shooting, what is that? My dream game would be what if Fallout had action of MGS4, that kind of playground mentality where any battle can play out a ton of different ways depending on how you approach it. I don't mean different ways as in use melee or use guns, its the same thing in this game really. Make the combat dynamic and create scenarios to use that combat in fresh exciting new ways, like boss battles or big scripted action segements. I think Deus Ex HR is the closest thing to this vision if the RPG elements and open world are as big as I hope they are (which they probably wont be).

There is also the issue of a ton of useless crap in the world of Fallout. Dont get me wrong, I love collecting stuff but can't you make it easier on us. Just filter out the crap. Do i really need an option to pick up a million old useless books, or cups, or a pencil, or a pot. I get the idea, make the world as detailed and open as possible, if you want to pick up that bottle you can... that's cute the first few places you visit. By the 30th location you see that the game is just populated with all this crap to keep you busy. So you search through every damn cabinet, locker or desk cause maybe just maybe there is a useful item. Even then you end up with far more items than you ever need. I have like 60 stimpacks and so many buffs I cant count plus all the food that  adds effects. Oh and I love that there is a crafting system. Collect useless crap to make one item that is useful, WHY?! I have like 50 of that item already, why waste my time finding a crutch and a belt, bringing it to a workdesk to make something I can find everywhere. There is so much excess junk, take it all out! When I enter a room the game should automatically tell me if there is anything worth checking for, it will save me hours of searching.

If they fix those two issues Fallout would be a perfect game in my eyes.

LOL I agree, you have to just run backwards in combat. And the items are excessive. I prefer fewer more important items to make weapons and stuff.

Fallout isn't really designed as an action game, neither is Oblivion. What you say is true, if they had decent mechanics in place it would be a much better game. When I was playing Oblivion I loved the scope, but all the time I was thinking, why can't the horse control like Zelda? Why aren't the dungeons designed like Zelda? Why aren't the controls like Zelda? Etc.

THanks GG, Chrome does weird things. With TES I am totally with you, I always wish those games were more like Zelda.

I think my perfect fallout game would be set a long time after nuclear devestation where nature had reclaimed the planet. So you would have this juxtiposition of old crumbling buildings with grass and vines and weird flowers everywhere. And the dust in the atmosphere would change the colour of the sun and moon. It would be sort of like Fragile I guess but it would play like Fallout/Oblivion

No, Zeldas world is nothing like TES. If everything remained the same except the dungeons were better and the game controlled like Zelda it would be incredible.

I know that, but it would pretty be pretty much Zelda if it was exactly like it save for one point lol. Just say you want a massive Zelda game, don't say Elder Scrolls should be like that. :X

Anyway, what's the point of having a massive over world if the dungeons are like Zelda? Why would you want to spend 50 hours exploring and pottering around if you spend 5 hours in every expertly designed dungeon?
