For those of you who are interested in either documentaries or the days of classic Hollywood, there's something you need to check out, assuming you have access to Turner Classic Movies.  For the past few weeks TCM has been running installments of a 7 part documentary that covers the early history of the film and movies called Moguls & Movie Stars. It starts just before the turn of the century when the first film equipment is developed and from there goes to cover the inner-workings of the business, the first movie stars and how eventually it all nearly fell apart and had to be completely restructured. It was a really interesting scene, and the frankly the scandals of the time were so much cooler than what we have today.  TZM wouldn't know what to do with themselves had they been around back then.

It's also very interesting to see how closely the burgeoning film industry mirrored the game industry of today.  The speed of which the technology advanced, the initial audience and the "this is just for kids" opinion of it, the struggle for artistic legitimacy, control and distribution of the product, etc.  It was all done before and it's happening again.

Anyway if you have some time to see if, the next episode is on Monday night. Check local listings for time or visit the site for the schedule - http://www.tcm.com/moguls/#/schedule

That sounds interesting. Too bad I unsubscribed to cable TV a month ago (Comcast = too expensive). Sad

This has been really good and well hyped so I suspect TCM will release it on DVD once it's all over and done with.
