If I have the funds, maybe I'll get it for my trip to Georgia next week. I also need to find my 3DS. I loved Metroid 2 back in the day.
I am sort of afraid that once I buy it a Switch version will be announced.

IMO it's fucking stupid that they didn't just make it for both in the first place.
Finally put some time into this, it's metroid! It's a bit methodical when compared to the other ones which is the exact thing I felt with the CV mercury steam DS game. Having it be 3D models slows the pace down it seems. Don't get me wrong, Samus still runs fast but it feels like the game unfolds slower. The good thing is that enemies require a little more action that just jump and shoot, the Melee counter is great and so are the new abilities. The metroid fights are goods, some repeat but they are still fun and dangerous.
The game seems huge, I have been unlocking new powers at a steady clip. I don't care for the look of the game, I'll take sprites any day. A few background ma are neat but I don't feel this game has the personality of the other 2D metroids.
Do you think the visuals just suck dick, or is it more of a case where it's held back by the hardware?
I beat AM2R, not only was it legit, but it'll probably be better than anything Nintendo is gonna do with Metroid for the next decade. I might get this when I've humored the idea that Nintendo is in the vacinity of a clue.

I just don't like blocky 3D instead of super clean 2D in games like this.

Well we agree on something.

This is why I no longer like Fire Emblem.
I used to love the 2D sprites and animation
Then it became this:
And now:
I just want to see 2D art like this pic:
(ignore the 3D background)

So it would have been better as a Wii U game with nice clean 3D.

I know, you finally lived up to the broken clock rule fam, good job.
I have been doing like an hour a day, good for like one section a night. This games huge, I still have quite a bit to go it seems. But here is the thing, I never feel it hit it's stride. Yesterday I got like 4 new power ups quickly, the spacing of these is all out of wack, before I went like 3 hour shift with no upgrades then boom you get a ton. The game is almost too linear, I never had a reason to retrace separate back. Even in pastbgames the game would usually find a way to go through old areas in new ways. So I have yet to really go back and look for secrets.
The enemy variety hasn't not been good. The metroid fights are good but repetitive. It's the rest of the baddies which all feel so basic. Rolling on the floor guy, flying bat thing, laser shooting thing on the wall. I have all these moves and it just feels repetitive with all the same enemies. I feel AM2R did a way better job keeping things fresh and interesting as the game went on.
It's still metroid so it plays like a dream, traversal is so good, looking for upgrades is still fun. But this feels like a lesser metroid to me.
Jesus this boss fight, where did this come from. I should be getting close to the end but only 40% in terms of collectibles.
Well you all refused to play a free metroid 2 remake so here is your chance to pay money to play one. This one is made by mercury steam and Nintendo and has gotten great reviews. Seems like we have a great new 2D metroid experience that is different enough from metroid 2 and last years AM2R to stand on its own.
This is exciting and it's also a test to see if we want more metroid. Don't fail the test! Buy this!
