Got the Civ IV complete pack on the current Steam summer sale. $10 nets you the aforementioned Civ IV, as well as its expansions.

I'm pretty sure everyone here knows about the Civ series, but in case you've been living under a rock inside the anus of a dead ogre slain thousands of years ago, the Civilization series encompasses some of the most widely known turn based strategy games ever. Streamlined, deep without being too overwhelming (for people familiar with the series, at least), and with thousands of buildings, units, technologies and cultural, religious, diplomatic and political improvements to research.

I've been spending my first few hours on the comprehensive tutorial, which eases you into the complexity of building an empire, and then achieving world domination by means of military might, diplomatic cunning, or cultural influence. I expect a lot of my already scarce gaming time to be swallowed by this game.

I also expect this thread to be filled only by my posts. LOL

Hey I love civ, even though I can never get far in it. I always have trouble holding an empire together.
Played 3 more often, should play some more 4.

Yeah, the middle and endgame portions gave me a lot of trouble in both Civ II and III as well. This might have been because I tried to rush through it like missions on an RTS campaign. This time I'm taking a more laid back approach, stepping back and actually considering and weighing my options, and reading more the information entries.

Yeah, sorry Steel, not my speed of game. Too stressful, too much commitment.  I got Civ 3 for $8 a couple of years ago and didn't take.

I'm going to start a game in the next day or two, right when I finish off portal.  I had trouble in my games because it just got to be too much for me to manage, too much  resource or land troubles or something. Great fun though. I think I like the exploration part the most anyway. I introduced a friend to it and he was obsessed with the game until starcraft grabbed him.

Hey aspro, how are you finding call of cthulhu? I liked it but stopped playing maybe halfway through, it's another one I have to finish off.

Please - sometimes it's just a mountain.

These however..

Hmm, now I'm thinking of a way that Xenoblade could have guaranteed bigger sales.

About civ, I started a game last night. I was just going to start it off. Oh, hey look, it's nearly 5 am.
