For once in my life, I am going to play something current, rather than hold it for 2 months, like CastleVania, or play it 3 years later, like CrackDown.
Black Ops it is!

A friend of mine really wants me to get Black OPs, but those kinds of games were never for me. Maybe a rental tomorrow.
Much like Vader said about Modern Warfare 2 last year, Black Ops this year has that "adrenaline pumping summer blockbuster" feel to it. I've shot a Dictator, Escaped a Russian Prison Camp, Harpooned a Helicopter, Catapulted Flaming Bombs, Rode a Motorcycle, Rappelled Down a Mountain, Shot Explosive Bolts from a Crossbow and Taken Out a Launching Rocket in a SPECTACULAR fashion in the first HOUR alone!
I haven't braved the Online or ZOMBIE modes yet, but what I've seen so far is VERY encouraging!!
I've tried to find ONE screen shot from the areas I have seen so far and couldn't find a single one! Instead I was greeted by picture after picture of varied environments and situations over and over and over again. The Call of Duty games seem to be all about crafting UNIMAGINABLE set-pieces and stringing them together in usually unthinkable ways to produce an absolute THRILL-RIDE!
Oh! Without spoiling TOO much, I also was briefed by a VERY famous President in the Pentagon itself! Cool Stuff!
I can't believe you like this game.
WaW and COD4 are waaay better.
Black Ops is just flash.

Played just a smidge of multiplayer this morning. If you're expecting detailed descriptions though, I am sorry to tell you I have almost no basis for comparison. It ran VERY smoothly. No framerate drop. Nothing of the sort. I did encounter a hacker, very quickly after starting in a match though. Basically, every time you would aim at this one guy, you would repeatedly get a "Connection Reset" message on screen, flashing on and off, rendering you helpless. I find it pathetic that people have to cheat THIS early after game release. 'K dude, if you're someone who builds your ego by climbing the rankings of an online game by hacking it, more power to you. You obviously don't have much going on for you outside of your virtual world so Good Luck with that!
It seems to have a ton of modes. Free-for All, Team Deathmatch, etc. It has the typical Experience system and sets of Gear to choose from at the Match outset.
I earned a few Points to spend but have no idea how to do so yet, and I haven't unlocked the ability to change classes yet either. I am at Level 2 and you get the ability to do that at Level 4.
I don't know how much time I am going to devote to this mode. It was disheartening to see people at Level 40 already. If I do play more though, I will post here.

Good to see you try it out. Did you play other shooters online before or is this your first experience?
CoD's are always tough at first, but once you unlock more weapons, perks, attachments, etc., it gets easier. That's my experience with the first MW, MW2, and World at War.
I do want to check out Black Ops if I can. I know some of my friends got it. Maybe I can play split-screen or something. I'm reading from people that it fixes the junk from MW2, and it's like the first MW. I guess the majority of CoD players are satisfied.

I've played online games very, very briefly before.
I enjoy them for the most part --BUT-- there is something that INEVITABLY ruins the experience for me.

The derogatory use of the word "Gay." The ridiculous frequency of the words "Nigger" and "Faggot."
I steer as far away from people that would use those words in REAL LIFE. Hearing them thrown about when I am trying to enjoy myself just gets MY. BLOOD. BOILING!
The ignorance and/or blatant bigotry of people using those words while cowering behind the anonymity of an online game never ceases to depress me for the future of humanity.

^^ I totally agree with you. I hate it when some players trash talk and say stupid crap like that. Gets me angry as well.
Which is why I always played while muting them. I only opened my frequency to my friends and family, people I know and trust, so I won't have to deal with all that nonsense.
There are good people out there, but in the CoD (and Halo) community, I think they're pretty much rare these days when compared to the sea of people who play these games.
I know that Bad Company 2's community is much more mature than CoD or Halo. Just not as many players.

For whatever reason (maybe cause I never use the headset, or some option I have set) I've never heard any of that (or anyone really).
But then, I do play most often with the sound muted whuile I listen to something else.
Gears 2 next? I can't wait for you to play RDR, my personal GOTY. I had a blast and loved the ending.
