My opinion of Kinect hasn't changed. I thought it looked stupid a year ago, and MS has shown me nothing to convince me otherwise. Kinect is nothing more than an expensive "novelty controller."
Just popped in to post this again as its really in depth.
Kinect in depth - latency, power, detail and more The final Kinect camera is only 25 per cent of its original size: no finger tracking
What kills a purchase for me is no fine control i.e finger tracking. They downgraded the Prima sense camera to one quarter of its original resolution, meaning it can't track fine tuned movement. Since Kinect was announced as Natal it's been hit after hit. It only works standing up, it only tracks 2 players, it uses 10-15% of the 360s processing power because they removed the on board chip to save money.
It's been downgraded to make it affordable and yet it's still £130 when you can buy a Wii for £180 which includes Wii Sports, Wii Sports resort, a controller, nunchuk and motionplus.
Even if all those issues were irrelevant, with my setup I wouldn't be able to use it due to space. I have a 360 hard drive and I can't even get XBL games because the machine isn't wireless.
Damn it, this isnt the GG weekly...
Kinect officialy sucks, I dont want one.

eggmiester said:amazing thing is that ms has suck loyal fans people are still saying how great and awesome it is but its a overpriced camera/mic that now also needs 13 feet away to work what a joke
Probably some oversimplification coming from sides. We'll have to wait and see how it goes when it gets into the hands of some real gamers.
I was struck that giantbomb dudes (say what you will about them, I don't think anyone can deny they are gamers) where in the space of a week they went from "all-in" to "no thanks" after using it off the showroom floor.

What I'll say about them is they're the guys who refused to get off the couch to play Wii bowling.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile
Okay, so I've softened a little on my Kinect/ Move disdain. I was still not getting either of them, but seeing how hep people were to the Harmonix game I was at least thinking that if the right games came along it could be justified.
The giantbombcast guys were in the same place. As of last week's podcast they went around the table and all but one of them agreed they would each be getting one.
That was last week.
This week they got to use one in their office, if you want to listen it's in the August 11 episode, 1 hour in, and now they are down to basically just one of them getting one "for the year that people will be making games for the Kinect".
Essentially their concerns come down to space. In their office they found that they needed 13 feet between the device and themselves in order for it to work (they were using the calibration software in addition to the game). So bedroom and apartment dwellers -- even those of you who have large room but have a couch in between the TV and where you would have to stand to use it -- you are SOL.
