If Fallout 3 and Borderlands had a Baby
And even better is that if it becoems more of a FPSer they can't call it Oblivion with guns and might finally shut up.
I'm not really feeling any story or characters in Fallout 3 so far. I want the next Oblivion game. The shooting isn't very well done, I agree and managing all the crap like healing crippled limbs is annoying.
I'm probably one of the only people out there that actually rates Fallout 3 amongst the best games ever. Not so much for the story itself, but the authentic and immersive feel to the game world. I didn't mind the VATS system because it let me get on with exploration and questing without worrying too much about reacting 1:1 with the enemies. I could just pause, blast the faces off enemies in the most entertaining way possible, and go on my merry way
Nonetheless I agree. All Borderlands needs is more focus on a narrative to drive it and just keep the loot raids and random weapon stats as a cool bonus.
I hope Gearbox gets the hint by the time they make Borderlands 2 because Borderlands lacks what Fallout 3 had in spades.

Sometimes
I wish Fallout 3 and Borderlands had a baby. So that way we can
experience the perfect RPS (Role Playing Shooter). With the depth and
story of Fallout 3 enhanced with the shooting and accessibility of
Borderlands, that would be the ultimate apocalyptic RPS game EVER!!!
Which is why I love and enjoy both games. Where one game lacks in one area, the other makes up for it, and vice-verse.
For
example, Borderlands is a great shooter that's accessible with
fantastic and satisfying gunplay. But I felt the story wasn't the
strong point and the entire world feels so lonely with not a lot of
people to talk to and not many cities or villages to visit that has a
population of survivors and interesting people to meet. This is where
Fallout 3's strength lies. It has a huge vast world to explore and
interesting people to meet.
But Fallout 3's weakness
is its gunplay and less accessible gameplay. It's more complicated and
tedious to micromanage everything. And also, the shooting and looting
gameplay isn't as addictive but feels more like a chore. It's good but
the shooting doesn't feel right. Either Bethesda did it like this on
purpose or it's apparent that they have no idea how to make a FPS.
So
imagine if there was a game with Fallout 3's depth/story and
Borderlands shooting/looting gameplay. *sigh* If only that were so.
I
hope Obsidian plays a lot of Borderlands so that they can make Fallout
3 New Vegas with better shooting. Likewise, maybe the next Borderlands
game will have a better story and role-playing elements.
Both games are still great though. But like almost everything, they're not perfect and has room for improvement.
