For about 3 years after the demise of the Dreamcast SEGA officially blew. Hard and consistently.  But for about the last year or so SEGA seems to be back to it's old-self, at least from a publishing perspective. Am I right ladies?

I agree. Almost back in full swing, but definitely making huge strides. Some of the games they've been publishing are great. Also, they've been one of the few developers who take chances like the core stuff they've been doing with the Wii.

But I think their mediocre Sonic games are taking away all the good that they've been doing. They just keep on coming like Sonic kart racing for example.

A lot of the anti-Sega threads I read in forums is always, "Teh Sega sucks! Sonic needs to die! Sega isn't what they were anymore!" All because of Sonic!

While they're completely oblivious to Alpha Protocol, Bayonetta, MadWorld, House of the Dead Overkill, Virtua Fighter 5, or the Total War games!

Same with EA. All people see is Madden, Madden, Madden, and FIFA and make so many anti-EA threads. While they're unaware that games like Dead Space, Brutal Legend, Mirror's Edge, Henry Hatsworth, or Skate exists and publish Valve games like Left 4 Dead and Orange Box.

I think SEGA would be, in strictly a perception and quality sense, better off dropping Sonic and trying a new franchise for platforming.  Oddly enough, this isn't really based on the Sonic formula not working, but rather SEGA simply not understanding what to do with it.  There's been so much stupid and wasted effort.

Does Sonic still sell, though? If they're making lots of money on it, it wouldn't surprise me if they see it as their Petz franchise. Complete crap, but it brings int he money for them to work on better things.

Then again, Ubisoft doesn't worko n better things, but that's beside the point. Nyaa

Sega is doing great as a publisher which is nice and all but that is not the Sega I know. They are still not at the level they were at during the Dreamcast. Sega still makes quality games like Virtua Fighter and Valkyria Chronicles. I dont care what anyone says Sonic Unleashed was awesome, so yes keep making Sonic, they are almost to the point where they might get it right enough for others to like it.

Not to me. None of Sega's newer games appeal to me, and I once held their games in even higher regard than Nintendo. I want the old-school, arcade Sega back. Of course, that isn't going to happen; that Sega died shortly after the Dreamcast failed, and the local arcades went the way of the dodo. This company may be called "Sega," but it is in name only (IMO).

Nothing in the last 20 years appeals to you

When arcade gaming died, a lot of what I enjoyed about gaming died along with them. That would be about 7 or 8 years now, not 20.

Yeah as a developer they aren't where they were on dreamcast, sorry to say but a few studios were merged, a few team members lost.

But as a publisher they seem to be doing quite well for themselves. Its a shame that they have sonic to bring down the mood Nyaa
