a few of us are playing this, might as well make a thread. The graphics are great, I am blown away at the remaster, everything looks so crisp and clear. But the best addition BY FAR is speed up mode. Omg every JRPG needs this. You push a button and you move at 2x or 4x the normal speed. Battles happen so much faster, running across town is a breeze, grinding is enjoyable now.

I only just started, this CG is still great. Man what a game.

I just started it too....very beginning. I am reminded instantly of the whole Vagrant Story vibe. It really does have that flavor to it and it felt very different than any other FF, even to this day.

Looks and sounds phenomenal. I wish we could get every game of that era done like this.

The license board is horrendous from a planning or knowing wtf anything does perspective. I have to use a guide to even know what are good combo classes. The alternative is search through a giant chess board of random names, terrible way to plan.

Isn't this supposed to be improved?  LOL

Don't overthink it, really. For the most part, the characters have classes that are tailored to who they are. The Machinist uses guns (Balthier), the Archer should be obvious (Fran)... Vaan's class is obvious too. There's a lot of redundancies thru the classes too where if there's a skill or stat upgrade you really want, you'll find it quickly regardless of class.

But the best combos are not apparent at all. How would I know to match white mage with machinist?

I'm still trying to finish up Horizon before I get into this one too much. Almost there.

Put a ton of time into this yesterday and probably will today too.

Easily the best version, and this game still holds up to any RPG released since. In terms of Japanese RPG's, I don't know that I've liked one as much as this at all since 2006. Not the Xenoblade games, not the newer Final Fantasies.....MAYBE Lost Odyssey. This game just has a really solid pace to it despite its size. And it's just really fun to play and figure out combat strategies.

The production in this verson is beautiful. The art style really pops and holds up incredibly well....as well as something like Wind Waker, even.

Vader I'm not really having any issues with the license board. It doesn't feel all that different from the original version to me. Just need to make sure you pick the right two classes for each guy.

My favorite thng about this game is still the darker, Vagrant Story vibe it has. For anyone who played the shit out of Vagrant Story back in 2000, you see little splashes of it all over the place. The way enemies can hunch over after you kill them, the art, the sound effects, the tone....even the camera. If you pull the camera all the way back inside a dungeon area, it even kind of has that top down view going on that VS had.

It has a much more serious, dark tone to it than any of the more recent games...but it's still FF and is still just fun to play. The last one that had a tone like this was probably FF7. Not that the others are lighthearted and whimsical, but they just don't have the feeling of foreboding that this one has. Or the darker art style.
