An underwhelming year for me was 2019 when it comes to music. My favourite album of the year is probably 'Schlagenheim' by black midi.

Favourite songs (with no more than one per artist):
El relámpago by Amaia (Romero)
In Bottles by Aurora (Aksnes)
Elevator Girl by Babymetal
Betsy by Billie Marten
Ducter by black midi (maybe not my #1 favourite but it's on YouTube)
Up North by Borknagar
Easter Is Cancelled by The Darkness
The Key Is Inside the Wall by Darkthrone
If I Die by Jade Bird
Younger by The Mountain Goats
The Garroter by Opeth
Death by a Thousand Cuts by Taylor Swift
Andromeda by Weyes Blood
Back to the Jungle by Xoth

A lot of songs I really like but no one album that stands out like in previous years. I'm too tired to go into any detail about them at this time, maybe I will later.

What were your favourite albums or songs from 2019? Could even be things that came out before 2019 if that's easier.

Sadistik - Haunted Gardens came out in 2019, so it was a great year! I also loved Whack World by Tierra Whack and All My Heroes Are Cornballs by JPEGMAFIA (just remember all caps when you spell the man's name). Malibu Ken, uknowhatimsayin? and Zuu were all great, too.

There were lots of other solid releases as well, Feet of Clay, Nothing Great About Britain, Secrets & Escapes (this would probably be one of my favourites if I'd had time to listen to it more), One of the Best Yet (one of the best posthumous albums yet), Igor, There Existed an Addiction to Blood, Hiding Places, Bandana, WWCD, May the Lord Watch, Injury Reserve. I'm probably forgetting a few.

Outside of rap most things I listened to weren't from this (mos rap excluding the top 6 wasn't, either), other than Old Star which I didn't really listen to much.

My favorite Album of 2019 was The Spell by Cellar Darling.

They're a Folk/Progressive Rock/Metal trio from Switzerland. They used to be in Eluveitie before leaving in 2016. The Spell is a concept album based on "Death and the Maiden" it is about a woman that falls in love with the personification of Death.

Here is my favorite song on the album, 'Insomnia'

Some other albums I liked from 2019 are:

  • Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex by Gloryhammer
  • The Great War by Sabaton
  • Above the Sky by Majestica

Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex is the 3rd album from Gloryhammer. It is a continuation of their previous two albums "Tales from the Kingdom of Fife" and "Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards"; Tales from the Kingdom of Fife starred Angus McFife in 10th Century Scotland. Space 1992 starred Angus McFife XIII in 1992. Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex started with Angus McFife XIII following the evil wizard Zargothrax through the Galactic Terrorvortex and ending up in another dimension.

Here is my favorite song on the album, 'Seige of Dunkeld (In Hoots We Trust)'

The Great War by Sabaton was a concept album about World War I. Almost all of Sabaton's songs are about historic battles.

Here is 'Attack of the Dead Men' it is about the seige of Osowiec Fortress in July to August 1915.

Above the Sky is the newest album by Majestica, it is their first after they changed their name. Their previous name was ReinXseed. Above the Sky is traditional Power Metal and the title track is a tribute to "Eagle Fly Free" by Helloween. It even has a cover of the Spaceball's theme song.

Here is the title track, 'Above the Sky'

Here are some songs that released in 2019 that I have liked:

輪廻 by Band Maid (Rinne or Reincarnation) It isn't like other Band Maid songs it is more Metal sounding as opposed to their usual Hard Rock sound.
Northwest Passage by Unleash the Archers
Bismarck by Sabaton (It wasn't on their Great War album because it was about the "Sinking of the Bismarck" in WWII it was a gift to their fans because it coincided with their 20th Anniversary.)
Angels Calling by Sabaton featuring Apocalyptica It is a rerecording of a Sabaton song from 2006.

There were some others but I can't think of them now.

I should look into the others, but I tried this song and, while I was unsure at first, the folk elements and piano section helped to raise my interest. Also, Eluveitie are a band I should get into. I know only one song, but I like it.
