I also found out a smaller edition of Civil War is being released over here, picked up the first volume today.

You can buy the whole thing in one volume though?

Well shit. That's true. I just finished reading the whole deal and it was a tiny 7 issue stuff. At least it was short and to the point. Pretty cool as well.

The only non-Japanese comics I haev read since I was a grown-up were the Batman ones that y'all suggested and the first Walking Dead (which I quite enjoyed).  I think I got my fill of Superhero stuff from the Batman books.

WW Hulk is pretty amazing stuff, although I don't really care about the myriad of small-time nobodies getting in the way of the actual cool shit. I also found out a smaller edition of Civil War is being released over here, picked up the first volume today.

World War Hulk was great. Simple story, with lots of ass kicking. To really appreciate it, you might want to try and track down Planet Hulk. It was the story that preceded WWH and set everything up. Very good Hulk storyline, and again plenty of smashing.

Yeah, I read Planet Hulk right before WW Hulk and it was indeed amazing. So many cool and genuinely funny moments.

Cool. Just stay away from all the post WWH storylines. All the crap with his son was just awful. However when Jason Aaronson took over the book a year ago for "The Incredible Hulk" it finally got good again with some genuinally bizarre crap.... like the Hulk going to a forgotten Soviet space station and fighting cyborg bears.

In the Planet Hulk movie they replaced Silver Surfer with Beta Ray Bill. Fox has the rights to on screen Silver surfer because of the fantastic four. This is why there is no onscreen SS movies or animation. Sad Fox relinquished Daredevil recentely back to Marvel but retained SS rights. angry

Just picked up Planet Hulk and All Star Superman collected editions. Flicked through both, amazing how much they captured in the All Star Superman movie, specific shots, accurate dialogue and designs. laugh

I just read part of the Omnibus paperback form of Planet Hulk.

The writing isn't very good. It just doesn't flow or intrigue enough, it comes off much better in the movie which really brings it to life. It's decent but I am loving it more for the artwork than the story which seems to be better done in the movie. I just finished the Silver Surfer section, loved it. I am a SS fan and the story is fairly similar to other SS stories where the SS ends up on some planet and has to fight or free people etc.

Read more Planet Hulk, the movie ends like 2/3rds of the way through the comics at the point where they defeat the red king.

There is some cool setpieces in the comics that are not in the movie, lovely artwork.

And some key points either not in the movie or done differently (some for the better, some even, none for the worse)

SPOILERS?

In the movie the Oldblood is powered more evenly with Hulk, puts a bit more drama into things, Miek is a wholly sympathetic character and does not turn into you know what. And the Oldblood is a believer in the red king whereas in the comics she has some inkling and inside knowledge of the dirty dealings of the king. So in the movie the betrayal comes across as more impactful. The spike elders were not in the movie at all.

EDIT:

Finished, oooooooooh twist ending. Sad.

Read All Star Superman.

Not as enjoyable as reading Planet Hulk because the DC Animation team did such a damned fine job adapting it for the screen. They use mostly the exact same dialogue and even panels as shots so the film is pretty authentic.

There are a few chapters in the comic series that aren't on screen like Kandor, the Jimmy Olsen section and Bizarro. They are okay. While the comic is good it's much better on screen and there are a few things which are done better in the film, panels which work better in motion and the scriptwriters subtly added or altered little bits to make it better in parts.
