Played for about an hour and a half. Impressions are... loading. Open door... loading. Leave building... loading. Start mission... loading. Setting is interesting. The fighting seems boring. Not sure about all the class mini games, seem simple and pointless.

Doucccchhhhhheeeee!
Now you're playing my memory is coming back to me. Of course you start at school and have to do classes. Then play hooky. The first 2-3 hours are you at school and familiarizing yourself with the layout and doing your chores (classes). Then you eventually start playing truent, break out into the city which is roughly the same size as gta 3, maybe a tad smaller? But dense and fun with plenty to do.
I remember it being kind of short compared to most sandbox games.

I think I got 15- 30 hours out of it. Would have to check.

Thats good news.
I know the beginning is boring I just gave you honest first impressions.
I've been skipping classes to complete missions. Doesn;t seem to have much of an impact, though I know you can level up skills by going to class.
Got to the city, some cool things there like the boxing but still not enjoying this much. All the missions so far are mostly the worst kind of fetch quests. Its like GTA without all the parts that make GTA fun like driving good vehicles, shooting people, blowing stuff up, etc. I mean if they were going to make an all brawler GTA the melee had to be much better than this.

*sigh*
It's not about walking around beating people up.
I only got to play for 10 minutes today. I met the hobo near the bus.

It's about doing missions and most have you doing a fetch quest and beating up people.
GTA is about doing missions, and most of them are fetch quests or shooting people. Oh, there are also escort missions. Are you missing the escort missions, Vader?
Nah, there are escort missions in this one too.
I played some more this morning, so far this is run of the mill GTA of that era. Which is fine.
Vader, the load times you experience are not in the PS2 version. They have a big load time at the start of the game, then after that they are acceptable. There are load times on entering buildings etc... but not very long.
Okay started it for third time. Got further than I have in prior playthroughs.
Big Red Dead Redemption vibe coming off this thing (which is good, RDR was one of my GOTY selections).
Also, Grange Hill. I expect at least GG to get that reference. Clearly the comic book motifs onthe load screens are a direct steal from the intro of that series.
Load times are attrocious on PS2. Visually very impressive for the time, though slow down occurs even during routine gameplay.
