And I think Aspro put it best in the OP. Easily my favourite thing about the games is the sheer brutality of it all - basically, your special moves are easily some of the most satisfying in any game, EVER. Focusing on getting as many Heat moves as possible, makes for fun times.
It gets even better when, during a key fight, you see a button prompt with the words "Feel the Heat", because this means someone is about to be on the recieveing end of a major arse kicking. If you can win fights with it, it's the coolest goddamned thing.

Foolz, keep in mind for when you play Y4:
DO THE SIDE MISSIONS AS THEY ARE OFFERED TO YOU. They will be locked out quite quickly (relatively speaking).
Some side-mission varieties return from Y3, which should make you happy. I've enjoyed the ones presented so far, but there came a point where I was locked out and I did not realize I would be, so to play it safe, do them as they come up.

Homer, in the bowling alley, behind the front counter there is a pamphlet holder. If you pick it up it has one of those 3D barcodes on it that says is "one of those popular 3D avatars"
Might be worth going there and scanning your TV with your 3DS to see if it does anything.
I'm 12 hours in now and what I think is the half-way point. I've done probably a tenth of the side stories and about a fifth of the available extra activities -- just to give you and indication of the length of the game.
EDIT: So it's much longer than the other games.
Also, the wahp.jp guys said there was a huge tie-in with a chr in Y2 (and exhibited some puzzlement as to how that would happen).
*dancing around spoilers - this next part may not make sense*
I think they are full of shit. I know who they are talking about now, and they obviously as a result, did not play Y2 to completion or touch Y3. So fuck them. Of course the game is not over yet, but I don't think the chr I thought was going to be in the game (from 2) is in 4.

Okay so thoughts on Yakuza 4 without spoiling anything:
- My favorite one yet. Best story, best "cinematography", best final battle.
- Could have used more Haruka and Majima, but hey, it's already pretty crowded, not much they could do.
- The golf course and golf-game is much better in this one than in 3.
- Longest yet. 22 hours just for the main story, that's with me doing only 4 sidestories and very little recreational playing.
There is no significant tie-in with Y2, other than some repeating characters. If someone wanted to enter the series, this is the game to do it with -- as a stand-alone experience it is perfectly fine, and while you won;t get the same emotional tie to the characters as you would had you played 1-3 first, it's still going to be enthralling enough.
Kabukicho is apparently the area of Tokyo that Kamarocho is based, if anyone wants to visit the real thing.
Why visit it when you've played Yakuza?
At the end of 1? I don't think so. I know there is in 2, and there is in 4.
