Interesting, will read more later.
I never realised GBA was such a monster.
Why in the hell do the NEW Super Mario Bros games seem to outsell the more modern Super Mario style platformers by almost DOUBLE every time? Are people retarded?
The Galaxy series was outsold by double on the Wii, and 3D World has been outsold by double on the Wii U.
Also, Eternal Darkness not even cracking the top selling Gamecube games list is pathetic.
I can answer that question, Edge. Most people are intimidated by 3D Super Mario games. 2D Mario games are much easier for most people to understand, thus they gravitate towards those more. My sister is a prime example. She did not like Galaxy at all, but loved NSMB Wii. When I asked her why, she responded with, "The controls and jumps are just too hard."
Seems like the 2d Metroid games sell better too.
Metroid Prime sold double what the other Prime games did....I attribute that to two reasons.
- Half of the people who bought Metroid Prime thought it was a Halo style shooter.
- Nintendo actually did tons of marketing for the first game.

Pffft.
Even if that were true, how would people know this without having bought and played them? I'd say its a given that most people were expecting Metroid Prime to be Nintendo's big new shooter to make up for the loss of Perfect Dark and to compete with Halo. Then when they bought it and were disgusted to find out it was instead mearly one of the best puzzle based adventure games ever made, they turned away from the series and never looked back.

I love 2, but can't deny the power of this post.

Note:
It's shipment data provided by Nintendo itself directly from their site or other reports which used Nintendo data.
Only games published by Nintendo which shipped more than 1 million are presented.
For games released on NES, GB/C,SNES, N64, GBA, GC their LTDs are updated as December 2006 with a few exception (GC top selling software).
For games released on DS, Wii, 3DS, WiiU their LTDs are updated as December 2013 or March 2014 (top selling games are updated as March 2014).
Only exception is Mario Kart 8 for which I took the shipment data as July 2014.
Hardware data is shipment provided by Nintendo itself as March 2014.
Most of these figures can be considered close to definitive with the exception of 3DS and WiiU of course.
GB contains GBC sales units as the two are considered one single platform by Nintendo.
Every figure is in million of units.
Include bundled units and DL units.
