Mark Hamill is back as Joker.
I'm getting a bit POed at Warner UK, they are so irratic with releasing these DC animated movies. No Justice League/War/Doom/Flashpoint Paradox. No Superman vs The Elite yet Superman Unbound and some Batman stuff gets released. Makes it a pain in the butt to build a collection.

That does sound horrible. Also I made a mistake the Joker is still voiced by Troy Baker he just sounded liike Hamill's Joker.
I had to buy French Blurays of Le Flashpoint Paradoxe for extortionate prices.
Thank you GG! Will try to check out.
now if you would only put that much effort into going to watch captain America.
I wanted to float new idea to you guys - a movie reference thread. It would be like a reference book of our reviews for films, or tv shows we've watched. It's not meant to replace this thread for casual disccusion, or shoutouts for stuff we've seen. But to supplement it with something more formal.
So the idea is, instead of just a casual shout out we use one post per film/show and do a mini review of no more than 2 paragraphs or shorter. Each review will just have a simple format template:
Movie Poster, genre, language. Then a short paragraph on what the story is followed by a short paragraph on why it's good. Followed by a simple rating, A, B, C etc.
In the opening post I would make a simple contents page saying what reviews are on page 1, 2 etc. So if we ever want to go back and find what's good we can easily find everything.

I found my netflix trial weird, they dont let you browse the full catalogue or build watchlists? They throw up a meta list based on what they think you'll like. I had a big section of anime up and overnight it vanished.

It's seriously the worst UI in the history of everything.

Sounds like work. But a good idea.
I'm doing a trial of Hulu Plus right now. It's complete and utter crap as far as streaming services go, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But since we still have 5 days on the trial we're using it, and my son and I have been watching the Persona 4 anime series. For reasons I've never quite understood he was really into watching me play it, and to this day keeps asking me when I'll be playing it again.
At any rate it's junk, but it's a great example of how stories in video games are really bad. I considered Persona 4 to have a pretty strong story in comparison to other video games. But when that story is taken out of that medium and put into another, it's glaringly bad. Still the boy likes it, and as weak as the story may be the characters are pretty entertaining, and there's usually about one good laugh in each episode. Enough to keep me in the room just so long as I have something else to do at the time.

What's worse is I find other services trying to copy it. But at least they still let you browse the whole catalogue per category.

I mean really mini reviews like 3 lines for story, 2 to 3 lines on how it's good. Like the cropped quotes from reviews that appear on trailers almost.

Ah damnit I was going to watch that, the trailer looked good. Do you need game experience to watch it? It's really bad?

The music for the show is good. That's the best thing I can say. YOu don't need to play the game, because the story almost follows the game's plot step-for-step. A purist would probably love that. But they still have gaps to fill in, since they don't do much combat on the show and most of it is fulled with teen mellow drama. Bleh.
Watched Young Detective Dee Rise of the Sea Serpent, the first 50 minutes is crapola, seriously had me questioning my faith in the director. The film eventually recovers to a decent finish, thankfully. If you like the first movie, this movie you'll hate at first then like by the end. There's some really amateurish stuff in it and some questionable use of CGI and stupid pandering to the 3D audience - throwing knives towards the screen in slowmotion nonsense.
Finished Walking dead season 3, that was awesome. The Governers two henchmen at the end though, seriously raise the bar for stupidity.
Saw The Shinjuku Incident, this Jackie Chan serious film. Was meh, One Night in Mongkok is much better. Chan can actually act though.
I just saw Amazing Spider-Man 2 and I surprisingly loved it. I thought the first one was just ok, I loved Garfield's Spider-Man but the tone and story were wrong to me. Not to say that ASM2 doesn't have it's share of problems, it does but it absolutely nails Spider-Man in a way no movie has. For certain stretches at a time we get the most pure perfect amazing spider-man ever put on screen.
Garfield and Stone are so perfect together (real life couple and it shows), the chemistry is flying off the screen. Every time Emma Stone is one the screen the movie is great, the whole relationship feels real and about as natural as a superhero dating a girl can be. While there is some melodrama with whether they should be together or not they never stop loving each other and Gwen Stacey never wants Peter to stop being Spider-Man, she loves that he is Spider-Man, this is such a great change as so many female movie comic characters want the hero to stop being the hero and that is such an annoying stupid plot point.
This is Spider-Man, it is 100% Spider-Man from the comics on screen. Every time Garfield is on costume the movie is exciting, funny, and has an energy that only Spider-Man can bring. He is joking around while battling the bad-guys. Peter clearly LOVES being Spider-Man, it's what makes him become alive. The city of New York loves Spider-Man in return, there are moments where he interacts with civilians that result in such cool sweet character moments. No other hero does stuff like that except Spider-Man. And the fights, wow! The visuals are incredible, the way Spider Man moves and combats his opponents is taken straight out of the comics.
What doesn't work are the multiple plot threads and some of the villain stories. The whole Parker family mystery is stupid and drags the movie down a bit. Electro's storyline feels like it was taken from Batman Forever. The tone changes in this movie are ridiculous, one moment it feels serious or down to earth, the next it feels like you got put into some over the top cheesy Batman and Robin outtake. Now when Electro is full on electro and battling Spider-Man it's all good, Fox makes him seem formidable. But the path Electro took to get there was just weird. Then there is Harry Osborn, who has potential but it never quite works. The actor playing him does a great villainous role, but that is the issue, Harry isn't supposed to be a super evil villain. He should be Peter's friend and his turn should be tragic. This Harry is an ass from start to finish and the character development between the two is so forced, it's terrible when compared to the Raimi trilogy. There is also some really weird music, especially the Electro theme.
Which leads us to what made this movie special to me. I believe the last half hour or so everything comes together perfectly and gives us the best 30 minutes of spider man ever put on film and some of the best comic book film moments ever for that matter. It left me with such an emotional high that I could forgive the earlier misteps.
TIME TO GO INTO SPOILERS
SPOILERS
Of course the biggest moment of the entire film is the death of Gwen Stacey, even though you know its coming when it hits it is brutal. Emma Stone is so good in this role that you want to believe that they will simply keep her alive a little longer. The way Peter reacts is perfect, the scenes afterwards was perfect. Peter has no clue what to do with his life, he stops being Spider-Man, he is totally lost. As any one would be in a situation like that. But the movie doesn't end on a sad note, it easily could have but instead it shows us that you have to move on, no matter the bad that happens to us we need to keep on going. The final Rhino scene is PERFECT. The kid spider-man being greeted by the real spider-man. All of new york rejoicing. Peter gaining back his humor, taunting Rhino, knowing full well that Spider-Man is who he is supposed to be and that is what Gwen would have wanted. Perfect.
Now back to the actual death, while it does sting a lot simply cause you love them together on screen, the events leading to it fall flat cause there is no build up. Green Goblin is in the movie for like 3 minutes. He simply shows up, figures Peter is Spider-Man and goes right for Gwen, it all happens so fast. The Goblin isn't even an established character yet, it's not Spider-Man's arch nemesis dealing his biggest blow. Plus the Harry and Peter relationship is terrible, so that angle doesn't work as well. So while the scene looked the part and it is still emotional, it could have been done with more gravitas.
END SPOILERS
So yeah the end left me super hyped for what is to come. It is not a perfect movie but it captured Spider-Man the character better than any other movie.
I just wanted to say what an amazing time it is to be a comic book movie fan right now. It is absolutely insane the level of quality movies we are getting. We just got a mind blowing Captain America movie and now an awesome spider man movie. Soon I will see X-Men Days of the Future Past, holy shit!!! My kid self's head would have exploded. I love these movies so much. This year is turing out great already and its all leading up till next year which will be the most geektastic year in movie history!
Awesome impressions D. I'll definetely watch it at some point. When I read this " I loved Garfield's Spider-Man" for a second I pictured Garfield the cat in a spiderman outfit.

The DC Original Animated movies have me more pumped to see Justice League and I'd even like a decent Wonder Woman movie.
I know. You'll probably see and love Snow Piercer as well, Captain America's in it, I hear it's great and the Korean director has done some awesome stuff before too. I think you'd really enjoy The Host in particular.
