Well, yeah. If the cuteness turns you off, you might as well dig this one up from the bargain bin. Some of the long-winded monologues that a few characters indulge into are way too sugary for my (or anyone's) tastes. It's a very intimate, introspective story that deals more about personal journeys than epic, world-saving endeavors, but it tries too hard to take the serious road, unlike Vesperia, which excells at humorous situations at every turn.

What version are you playing Steel?

I've seen the PS3 version around here, and I'm half tempted to pick it up...if only so that there's a chance Namco Bandai might release the PS3 Vesperia down here....

A lot of JRPGs do that for some bizarre reason. Even the most light-hearted and comical ones turn all serious towards the end. I personally don't like it when that happens. Why can't JRPG developers be more consistent and sensible from beginning to end, like the masterful Pixar films?

For example, Radiata Stories started off hilarious and lighthearted with fart jokes, crackling gremlins, and just a wonky storyline. But the game got all serious towards the end talking about serious themes like single fathers, broken families, choice of a girl or saving the world, etc. If only Tri-Ace stuck with one tone throughout the game, it would've just been a really fun adventure. But they didn't.

I always wondered why Japanese RPG developers do this. I think they overdo it with the philosophical, political, or religious themes when all I want is a real fun adventure!

360; PS3 version is a good grab because it has extra content. More playable characters and more dungeons.

Last night I reached Wah Lava Cave, which should wrap up the 4th chapter, Grand Valse Brillante. I think I rushed my way up here, because I have the nagging feeling I'm underleveled at 23. Might want to reach 25 before reaching the end of this dungeon.

I beat this game last year... I like it because it was particularly guided with no side missions (I'm the type of gamer who likes to know I'm seeing everything in a game).

I particularly liked the real-world stil photo's they used to convey the story.

Be ready to consult gamefaqs for the last 2 hours of the game though -- you will find some cheap game-time extending puzzles.

Finally reached the end of the lava cave to finish chapter 4. The fifth one, Nocturne, unfolds before me. The plot thickens, spies are being uncovered, someone died already, and the whole party has been scattered for a while now. I think I reached the point where combat gets even more interesting, having unlocked party level 4. Now I can counterattack and use harmony chains.

Chapter 5 is behind me now, as I took my revenge and got everyone reunited again. Counterattack is tricky, and Harmony Chains are only as good as your specials. Other than that, it has been smooth sailing up until now. Chapter 6, Tristesse, lies before me.

I meant mine as if the penis were meant for me...

That statement is mostly true, though... Hasn't stopped people from trying!

They don't call me 'gagstatic' for nuthin'...!

Finished the game at last. Too bad the story is the weakest link in the game; can you imagine? An RPG whose biggest flaw is the plot.

To break it down, I'd say this is a game with outstanding visuals and art direction, marvelous music, and compelling combat system, but with a plot that trying to be introspective, it takes itself too seriously, more cheesy than moving.
