Just finished it now. That last fight had some hardcore bullshit on Legendary. Probably died over 50 times on it alone.
And the credits roll! Excellent game. I know most said the story was pretty weak but I enjoyed it. Gameplay is excellent. Definitely has the odd very frustrating moments on Legendary difficulty but overall a pretty fun and rewarding experience. Changing your equipment and grenade types on the fly is a bit tricky, especially in the heat of battle, on a controller.
I finished all of the FOB missions and killed all of the targets. The last target was especially fun. He is the one that is northernmost on the map, only reachable by air. So I hopped in a Wasp and headed that way. Two Banshees shot my Wasp down so I jumped out. The first Banshee chased me and got stuck in the trees so I took out the pilot and attempted to get the Banshee out of the trees. However, I kept getting pummeled by the second Banshee closing in fast. I hopped out, grappled to a nearby rock and managed to grapple to the Banshee in the air. After kicking the pilot out, I managed to fly to my destination. I perched myself on a mountain above and managed to kill everyone except the target with my sniper rifle. I dropped down and fired all of my rounds of my M40 on the target but only managing to destroy his shield. He flew at me so I smacked him with my gun. He flew again, another smack. Mission accomplished.

Moments like this is why it's amazing.
I unlocked the wasp, did most of the bases and I feel I'm coming to the end. I love just coming up with crazy battle plans and executing them. I've had some crazy fights with hunters, with multiple banshees, and now the wraith tanks. The gameplay is just phenomenal, but I wish there was more to the game than just repeatedly doing base clearings it feels like.
I finished it today and loved it. The gameplay and controls are phenomenal and making Halo an open world game just works for the series. Its exactly the shot in the arm it needs after the sixth entry. I really didnt like that we were forced to play the last five missions without a break. It goes back to the old Halo formula which, while fun, doesnt excite me like the earlier encounters. I also didn't care for wave after wave of enemies at the end to make it more challenging ( screw you, Brute Chief!).
However, the whole package is just amazing, GOTY amazing to me. I mean, I put over fifty hours into this game so far. Thats like my total play time for the other five Halos combined! This game really pulled me in.
If 343i releases co-op then I may attempt it with some friends.
Indeed.
Holy shit! That Escharum boss fight is INSANE on Legendary. Got him though, finally.
