Finished the game a few days ago.
It's too restrictive for a so-called open world game. You can't run around in your own camp, tons of missions make you follow someone else at a certain speed, the horses overall feel slower, and you can't really earn money outside of the story missions. This is on top of the survival mechanic wank and unfailable story sections that would be accomplished better through regular cutscenes. This can mostly be fixed if Rockstar put out some patches that speed you up some, so hopefully more people bring it to their attention.
I could complain about how there's less to do, like how playing horseshoes is gone, but I've barely touched any bounties so far, and I'm hoping those flesh out the single player considerably more. For my second playthrough, I'm going to make Arthur bald with a bushy beard so that he looks like Max Payne, and have him dual-wield all the time.
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom
I am in awe so much of the time playing this game. It's the most incredible open world ever put in a game. Hunting is better than any hunting game. The story is the best rockstar is done, rivals bioware games with team building and how every character in the gang is fleshed out. Graphically nothing comes close.
But yeah the missions are super strict and gun play is as basic as it comes. Seems like the whole game is just an elaborate shooting gallery. I would kill any other game that does this but there is something about this world that makes me never want to stop.
These missions are like action setpieces from a linear game, insane its in a giant open world game. Saint Denis is incredible. I'm still in awe of the detail in this world.

Yeah, definitely best to spread the missions out between side missions and exploring.
HOLY SHIIIT!!!!! This is better than most Tv shows! I just hit a season finale! I can't believe what's going on.

Well those shrinkable horse testicles didn’t program themselves into the game you know.

I usually play after 9.
EDIT: ohhh this is the RDR2 thread lol. No thanks, I need to finish it.
Even with these negatives I could honestly say that this may actually be my game of this generation. Everything else is just too good. This may be the most dynamic open world I’ve ever played. Wild life is everywhere, plus NPCs that have their own problems and stories. It feels like a living, breathing place. It’s equal parts beautiful when riding through the mountains or creepy when traveling through the swamps. There’s so much mystery to this place and you’ll want to discover every part of it. It’s so satisfying to ride through the countryside and stray for hours on the side missions. That’s because the side missions are fantastic. I think the storylines could rival Witcher 3.
Arthur is such a great character. He’s ruthless when he has to be, but really has a heart of gold. He just doesn’t believe it because he’s been trained to believe he’s only good at killing, to being an enforcer. He can be talented and skillful at a lot of different tasks, but still plays it down with the townsfolk.
I’ve put in over forty hours and still only halfway done. However, I still want to explore. Four hour gaming sessions are just not enough.
