I wish it was this easy, but you'll come across absolute bastards with mad skills who will infuriate you. A good team can wreck you repeatedly. Sometimes you'll be the only one with any decent skills in your team and you'll have to do something pretty special to turn the tide.
Just looked at a few screenshots of Hammerhead Bridge. Looks like a huge maze to get lost in, with grating over it to either rain death from above or be shot like a defenceless sitting duck. Pesonally I'd like it more if they added a few more 'easy' maps like Walleye Warehouse.

But those bastards with mad skills you're talking about are just very adept at wiping you out. Very rarely do I come across someone who excells through the use of superior strategy. Ranked battle is all about being aggressive, with the only exception possibly being splatzones, where you can claim the zones and then fall back to a key location to take out the incomming opposition.
Wiping you out is a superior strategy. They manage to place themselves in the best positions and do everything right all the time.

Played this a lot today. Totally awesome map, suits my playstyle perfectly too.
It's annoying in Splatzones though because it's such a long level it takes ages to ink back to the area once you are killed.
The map itself is great, lots of high vertical and lower underside areas, tons of nooks and crannies and right angles which are awesome to pop out of and kill. The upper bridge though is all grating so while it's good for shooting through, when you want to ink over with speed instead you run slowly. Very slowly.
I dropped down to a B+ in rank yesterday, had some bad tower control problems on the new map. Those problems being shitty teamates.
I got back up to A - later. Just about. Need to play more ranked.
I'm ashamed to say I peed in the garden last night because I didn't want to go upstairs in between Splatoon matches. I need one of these adult diapers COD players use.
Status check
- Rank: A -

What's yours?
Got around to playing some Splatoon yesterday. Played Camp Triggerfish and Flounder heights in splatzones. Both were challenging and great fun, Having to take/guard the splatzones really makes you appreciate the intricate level design of Floundering heights. Camp Triggerfish is one of the weaker maps in my opinion. The layout of the splatzones makes it a hard map to conquer, unless you've got a few teammates with enough range to just capture them both without having to cross over. Was having a good run untill I disconnected and had to join another group where there were a couple of players who clearly didn't know how to contribute to the match.
I had a torrid time on Floundering heights splat zones, when the match started and it was showing our team, one player popped and vanished presumably because the connection was lost and we were 3 v 4 for the whole match. Complete waste of time.
Also not being able to change weapons in between stages on tower control is a pain, some levels are perfect for one gun and then you are on the other stage and your weapon is near useless. You might as well just choose the medium, a splattershot each time.
Jesus Christ the competition in this game is insane now. The higher my level goes the more I'm pitted against unbelievable players. Feels like one blink or caught wire and you're toast. Makes it very satisfying when you win though.
It's certainly a game you need to keep playing to stay in form. Played a few matches in Turf Wars yesterday and I was barely scoring 550 points. Wish I had more time to play. Not sure if I'll make it this Saturday either.

The competition gets better and better. You really feel it when you are paired in a low level group it's like shooting ducks in a barrell. I had a Rainmaker match where I trapped all 4 players in their own endzone with an aerospray.
Dang, I dropped rank to B+, then dropped again to B. Managed to fight back to B+. It's a constant battle to maintain rank.
After suffering at the hands of Japanese snipers, I had a hell of a lot of fun butchering them with Krakens today. Especially when you get in behind them and hit them like lightning
Tried playing with the Rapid blaster which is the blaster that gives you to fastest running speed while using it. Unfortunately it takes 3 to 4 blasts to kill someone so it aint great. On the plus side it's great for hitting people hiding around corners.
SplatNet - Splatoon Multiplayer Website quick tour
Splatoon web app now available in English
Anyone try this? It's pretty cool, shows when your friends are online and you can schedule a match for a specific time and it will post it on twitter. It shows what maps are on right now and coming up but the Europe time is CEST, which is like an hour ahead or behind GMT.

Yeah I checked it. It's nice, but I don't use twitter, so ultimately pointless Nice that it states times in my local timezone though. Not that it's hard to figure out.
I have a twitter account but I dont tweet anymore.
The app still shows who is online on your friends list and what the current maps are. If you click the menu and rankings it shows our turf wars and ranked battle scores, including yours and mine.

Yeah, that is rather cool, were it not for the fact that I'm happy to get 2 hours per week of splatoon in these days Perhaps I'll be able to play some more tonight.
I guess I'd just enjoy the ranked battle modes more if they weren't ranked. Also, I don't agree that ranked matches require more strategy than Turf Wars. If anything, they're much more action packed since the ranked battle modes focus all the action in one spot. With turf wars knowing where you need to be is just as important as your twitch reflexes. With things like splatzones and tower controll, you respawn and just make your way back to the fight asap.
I came up against a team of 3 dynamo rollers yesterday. Uuurgh. Those things are way overpowered.
