I have never really understood everyones obsession with first party games and exclusives When I think back to the hundreds of games I finished this generation (over 300 something) I would say 1% of them were exclusive games. I always like to see what has the best overall variety and amount of games, consider the system features a little then go from there.
The PS2 for instance wasn't one of the greatest consoles because of it's exclusives, it had a bajillion games than the other guys. The dreamcast was far more sexy, powerfull and interesting as a system in comparison (I had one at launch, so awesome) but when you take one system that has games against even a far better system that doesn't, games win everytime.
This is why the last couple Nintendo consoles don't super appeal to me because there are no damn games on them in comparison to the other guys. And if you don't like the few exclusives they have then system = paperweight.
This rant was brought to you by the letter Y and the number 7.
Greatest games of all time GME tend to be exclusives, that is the only reason. Going through history obviously all Nintendo games, all early Sega games, all sony games, Almost all FF games, all early RE games, most MGS games, early GTA games, the best 3D fighters were exclusives, this gen stuff like uncharted 2, demons souls, little big planet, gears of war, etc.
And GME what PS2 games were excellent non exclusives? All the best PS2 games were exclusives. Every Sony game including GoW, Ratchet, Jak, GT, Socom, Ico, shadow of the colossus. GTA3, GTA VC, GTA SA all timed exclusives. MGS2 and MGS3 timed exclusive and true exclusive. DMC1 and 3, exclusive. Okami timed exclusive. FFX, FFXII, KH1, KH2 all exclusives. DQVIII, Katamari, Virtual Fighter 4 all exclusives.
What games did you play on the PS2?!?!?!?

There are exceptions, but I agree.
Randolph said:I consider all multiplatforms PS4 exclusive because that's the only system between it and Xbone that lets me own the game and play it when I want to play it. Regardless of my internet circumstances. The Xbone versions of all of these games are, in my view, just gimped overpriced extended rentals.
Amen

Up until the Xbox 360 generation I totally agree, but now almost EVERYTHING is multi-platform. Outside of a handful from each hardware maker. Games in this past generation became multi-platform that I would have never imagined in a million years would be.
So since 2006 it has been the multi-platform games being the greats, with a few exclusives here and there. Before 2006, everybody had exclusives coming out the asshole...so of course those were going to be the huge games to push each console. Now the consoles are so similar in terms of what they can do and the amount of multi-platform games is so high, that its just not that way anymore.
- Elder Scrolls
- Dark Souls
- Grand Theft Auto
- Final Fantasy
- Resident Evil
- Call of Duty
- Metal Gear Solid
And on and on are all multi-platform now. I'm sure even Rare's games would be multi-platform now if someone else had bought them. (and likely GOOD)

Agreed. But Sony and MS had some helluva good exclusive this gen. Halo 4, Gears, Uncharted, on and on...
Okay I'm looking at the list of layStation_3-only_games">PS3 only games and seeing what I would be interested in. Maybe you guys have some knowledge as to what these studios are doing next?
- Aquanauts Holiday
- Beyond: Two Souls
- Heavy Rain
- Killzone 3
- The Last Guardian
- The Last of Us
- Resistance 3
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
- Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
- Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
It's not a huge list. I like FPS but I want to use IR, really like everything I see Naughty Dog do. I like quirky story driven games so Quantic Dreams stuff interests me. Aquanauts I would basically buy because I love Endless Ocean. Looking at the PS3 only list it seems to be mainly:
- God of War
- Resistance
- Killzone
- Uncharted
- LBP
- MGS
- Infamous
- Gran Turismo
- Motorstorm
Of that list only Killzone and Uncharted really appeal to me.
Both are winners in my book, GG. I think you'd actually like Heavy Rain too.
Resistance 3 is my #1 FPS of the generation. And I played A LOT of them.
I like the look of all Quantic Dreams games but my eyes roll back into my head at their pointless tech demos.

I was bored to tears with R1 and 2. I never finished 2. Is R3. Like them or did they change it quite a bit?

Insomniac seem to have sunk a little, Fuse and now some MS project. Seems they are no longer the Sony supporters they were.
ED: Did you ever get around to Wii Goldeneye?
They have fallen off a lot since they went multi-plat.
No on Wii GoldenEye, I forgot all about it actually. And since it's a region locked system, my Wii game purchases have come to an end.

What region is your system? I'm pretty sure the game released in all territories.
GG, if you picked up a PS3, would you be able to put it online? You'd love VGPress game nights with Uncharted.

I wouldn't get one and I wouldn't shoot people online. I'm more about co-op or social than competition.

Fucking pacifist asshole.

You know what I just realised about 2 hours ago? The only online games I like are ones where it still feels like you are playing in single player. Like in Animal crossing I do my thing just open my gate and let people drop in and out but it doesn't interfere with what I'm doing. In Mario Kart I just join a group and it feels like you are just doing a GP in single player with more intelligent enemies.
Many multiplatform games are coming out on the PC; some are even coming out on Wii U. So even within that context, they're hardly PS4 exclusives.
