Finished Kakeguri on Netflix, they only have 13 episodes.
It's about crazy gambling at an academy and a girl who joins up who is batshit crazy about gambling.
It started great then went a little flat. The "ending" was anticlimatic but they are obviously going for a season 2.
Tried the Children of Whales on Netflix - about a future? Where people live on sand island/ships on a sea of sand. Pretty interesting so far, but I have no idea where it's going.
Still watching Violet Evergarden on Netflix, it continues to be fairly excellent - if you can take to slow paced romanticism and melancholy.

Finished season 1 of One Punch Man on netflix. Pretty good, not sure about the central conceit. If the guy is so strong you know he's going to win every fight. It's like Superman if kryptonite didn't exist.
Watched 20 episodes of Saiki K. On Netflix about a superpowered psychic kid whose powers are unrivalled.
It's a comedy about how life makes things difficult for him by his family and friends. It's crudely produced in animation terms, very basic. But pretty fun and lighthearted.
Seen it, didn't like it.
Finished B: The Beginning on Netflix.
It's a crime show mashed up with the supernatural element. The serial killer storyline does far better than the other stuff and comes across as a Psycho Pass like show. The supernatural elements are okay, nothing great but they don't detract from the other storyline. It's short too and one I would recommend along with the better series Terror in Ressonance and Devilman Crybaby I would tell anyone to check out on Netflix. Only about 10-12 episodes, each 20 minutes long.
I tried out Viewster, it's a legitimate legal, free anime streaming service.
You don't need an account, but unlike Funimation Now free or Crunchyroll free, there are NO ADs whatsoever. Which is pretty cool. I don't know how they make their money but there is some pretty cool stuff on there like Toradora or season 2 of Haikyu!!
I tried it because I needed a new comedy - as I have exhausted much of the stuff on Netflix.
Food Wars is really good.
A comedy about a cook who goes to an elite culinary school. It also had great extra info in the subtitles which explains what the traditional Japanese dishes actually are.
Finished season 1 of Food Wars on Viewster, really enjoy this show. I would buy it if it was out on bluray here. Season 2 is on Viewster too.
Finished Monster Musume otherwise known as Everyday life with Monster Girls. It's a harem comedy about a guy who lives with cross breed woman who all want him but it's illegal so he is constantly being sexually teased and getting bloody noses. The problem with the series is that it's borderline hentai yet there is no nudity. So it feels like a waste of time sometimes and I have to constantly turn down the volume from the womens orgasms, even though what was happening on the screen wasn't that interesting.
Started Demon King Daimo about a guy who enlists at a magical school and it is foretold that he will become a powerful demon king. It's a comedy and he's a good guy so he is constantly trying to prove to people he's not a bad guy. It's pretty good so far.
Finished Demon King Daimo, good overall but the final 3 episodes are bit hinky. Changes the dynamic of the show from comedy to this weird god overthrow fantasy thing that doesn't make a lot of sense.
Watching Classicaloid on Viewster, about these people created to be like Mozart etc and they all hang out at this girls house against her will. Quite funny at times.
Started season 2 of Food Wars, this series is really good.
Also started Gate, this series where a door to a fantasy world opens up in Japan and the Self defence force get sent through to investigate. Pretty good so far.
I've been watching animes on HiDive recently, which I recommend. The picture quality is exceptional, and the subtitles are much more nuanced than the likes of CrunchyRoll, so even something like Yuyushiki (a show consisting almost entirely of awful wordplay) may be appreciated.
Speaking of Yuyushiki, what at first appears to be a typical show about three girls fresh into high school "ironically" molesting each other (it is an all girls school, so as much as the market is teenage boys, you can't say it's not realistic), remniscing, making terrible jokes, googling and wikipediaing things to stave off boredom, it ends up having a lot of heart. It's also quite adorable.
I also watched Elfin Lied, which was infamous in the early days of the proliferation of anime in the anglosphere, but I don't think it's as well remembered as other graphic animes have proven to be. Turns out it's actually a relatively tender genre work on forgiveness, alienation and loneliness. Not something I remember being a part of its reputation, but it does mean it has some worth beyond decapitations and nudity.
But best of all was Kino's Journey. Directed by Ryutaro Nakamura (Serial Experiments Lain and Ghost Hound), my expectations were incredibly high. And they were more than met. Each episode is a philosophical vignette, ala The Outer Limits or the Twilight Zone, but unlike those two shows (the former I think is brilliant, don't get me wrong, and the latter is lots of fun), it's also usually very poignant. And the banter between Kino, a stoic traveller, and Hermes, her speaking motorcycle (yes; this is a serious, often bitingly bittersweet show) who is impatient, and constantly misquotes aphorisms, is always amusing. They travel together from city to city; each city being based on a utopian ideal which is explored…as Kino and Hermes explore the city itself. Well, that didn’t make it sound nearly as great as it is, but please watch in spite of me if you have the chance!
What really matters, Foolz, is Polar Bear Café.

Better subs than Crunchyroll, better 720p. Can't compare higher resolutions, because I've never subscribed to crunchyroll. Reasonable chance it might be better, though: the bitrates for films or shows with high fidelity goes really high; far too high for my internet. I also haven't tried Funimation.

I just watched the Sub for My Hero Academia Season 3 Episode 1.
The Dub was suppose to be available today but Funimation didn't receive the episode in time to meet the deadline.
Next week they will have episodes 1 and 2 since that is on schedule.
The episode was mostly just a recap of what happened in seasons 1 and 2 with the characters commenting on it.
The new stuff in the episode was created for the anime because next episode is the start of the Summer Camp Training arc.
