Fairly certain Super Robot Taisen and Project X Zone are made by the same development team!

Project x Zone comes out today. This game completely fell off my radar along with a lot of peoples' I think. Anyone picking it up?

Demo just left me bewildered somewhat annoyed.  I'd have been a lot more annoyed if I'd paid money for it.

I can understand the confusion, but it just so happens I have experience with this type of game, so I knew exactly what to expect, and have had no regrets in picking it up!

Remember her from all of my anime-booby topics? Yeah... She's in there!! As it turns out, the game is made by the same development team --AND-- it's almost a psuedo-sequel to Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier (the game she first appeared in)!

Expectations are what makes or breaks this game. If you think it's an action-RPG, you're going to be disappointed. It's actually an SRPG with the slightest of interactive, action elements. In games like Fire Emblem, you move your character with the cursor, move next to an enemy and press a button to attack. You pretty much just watch the results from there. In --THIS-- game, you move (at least) two characters at a time and when they attack the "A" button or the "A" button --PLUS-- a direction on the d-pad initiates an attack. What differs in this game is: You have a bit more input in the battles. Typically, your attacks will either strike horizontally and cause damage --OR-- pop an enemy straight up into the air or diagonally up in the air. Depending on how many moves you have at your disposal, you then need to choose attacks after your first to juggle your enemy in the air and do as much damage as possible. Playing a game like this for the first time, you're not going to know what attacks hit in which direction, or even the fact that you HAVE to juggle and it's going to seem like pointless, mass-confusion.

When the battle system --DOES-- click... Oh! the satisfaction and controlled Chaos you can cause! It's --AWESOME!--

Throw in slightly more advanced attacks like having a Solo member join your Team that can initiate Special Attacks at any time with the press of the "L" button, or having nearby Teams that can lend Support with the press of the "R" button and things go bat-shit INSANE!!

The game is FUN. It has a nonsense story that is --NOT-- meant to be taken seriously, but OH! THE FAN-SERVICE!! In one of the earliest battles Jin Kazama and Xiaoyu from Tekken meet Akira and Pai from Virtua Fighter just after Red Arremers (Gargoyles Quest, Demon's Crest, Ghosts n Goblins) start pouring from a Demon Gate, triggering Jin's Devil Gene... first you have to rescue Jin... but then Dural (Virtua Fighter) and Juri (Street Fighter IV) show up... along with Ken and Ryu!! ...MADNESS!!

GASP

This game --WILL NOT-- be for everyone --BUT-- if you love Sprites, JRPGs, Boobies, Sega (lots of Valkyria Chronicles cameos), Bandai-Namco (BanPresto) or Capcom... There's BOUND to be something to make you smile!!

EDIT: Forgot to add this before: It would be best to think of this game as the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 of SRPGs!

I just played one of the CRAZIEST game scenarios --OF ALL TIME-- a few minutes ago:

Hsien Ko and Frank West were investigating the Cruise Ship where the Saturn game, Dynamite Cop, took place. They are joined by Bruno Delinger, the hero of THAT game...

...Morrigan and Chun Li also show up to fight Lord Raptor who has banished all the passengers and taken over the Cruise ship with a horde of Zombies...

...of course where there are Zombies, you'll soon find Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine! They were snatched by a Portal from the Ship they were on during the events of Revelations, with some Ooze from that game as well!

...THEY are shortly joined by Heihachi Mishima, who Chris is convinced reversed his aging by the use of an Umbrella Corporation-like Virus...

...The take over of the ship, the meeting of the Heroes and Villains, the portals that transported all of them there have all been orchestrated by Jedah Dohma of the Demon Realm...

Yeah... I don't even know what to say at this point... other than my --NERD BONER!-- is HUGE right about now!!!

Imagine seeing ALL these characters, using their Special Attacks to the tune of their own Theme Songs, ALL in one game...

There's really no other game like this one out there right now; the closest I've played to it is Super Robot Taisen... The game and its gameplay system are actually VERY well done, but if you've never played anything like it before I can see why it gave such a bad impression. This is one of those rare, rare, SUPER fun games that hardly ever comes makes its way out of Japan anymore. I'm both shocked and thrilled it did! It harkens back to the days of the quirky PSOne RPGs or one of the sleeper gems on the DS. It's sad to see a few of you discouraged.

Yeah. It's chaotic, but it's controlled chaos once you get used to it. The spectacle of it all, crazy combos and super juggling are all part of what makes it fun. You have to play the game for a while to get to know the rhythm, flow and direction of the character's attacks to learn to link them together to be most effective... I never played the demo, but I think I would have "gotten" it anyway because it is so similar to Taisen. I think they realized the negative reaction generated by it because they are putting out another one... Maybe that one will make the battle system a bit more clear!

The game has a great sense of humor... Not only does it have typical Japanese-like perversions; Frank West, for example, flirts with --ALL-- the sexy female characters (even the evil ones!) and asks them to pose for a picture... which is then labeled as 'Erotica' --BUT-- then the game is also self-aware of the Japanese-ie kind of quirks and the female charaters make comments as such, taunting Frank and telling him they will kill him after the picture is taken!

Newly created Male lead character is also telling his pupil Newly created female character (Mii) to raise her leg more in her attacks... She of course takes this as a sexual advance also... Prolly is!  LOL
