What are these miners people keep telling me about? I have no miners. I have guys who build things and guys who cut logs and guys who farm and knights. Am I missing something?
I was just using the troops as a paddle like you said.
You need to develop Stone Town (?) to get the Miners (i think).
If you beat some mid-bosses and clear some areas of Oni, it will give you the option to build there.
I think it is either the Frog or the Berzerk Knight or the Giant Oni that you have to kill to get that area.
Just do some Side Quests and areas will open for you. Just beware of the 3 and 4 star Quests if you are only at Shiskebaboo; you WILL die quickly!
They are the ones that are usually marked 'Guardian' in the description in one way or another; they are also NOT timed, meaning they won't disappear after a few days...
Look for 'em, beat 'em and progress!
(It's the Berserker Knight in Wavy Rock Forest that you need to beat to get the Buff Miners!)
This ISN'T a bargain-bin type of game!
In a world with even a small amount of justice this game would be a SYSTEM SELLER!
Keep it in the back of your mind Vader! Don't miss it!

Ideally every game is a bargain-bin type of game.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobilephantom_leo said:It's beating the Guardians from the side-quests that open new areas for you to develop!

I didn't realise all that. Thanks so much. Will be a while before I get back to this game, I want to polish off a few other things first which are closer to completion.
I have dethroned 4 Kings; 3 Left to go!
I have defeated all of the Guardians, so my Kingdom is fully developed!
I have all of the citizen job classes (with the exception of the special ones you get when defeating a Kingdom).
I have completed 31 out of 100 Side-Quests. (But that number goes up and down for some reason...?)

Some cool little things I have noticed about the game:
(1) If you go and visit your many wives, If you talk to them enough, they will eventually give you a little kiss! Awww! Do this and sit on the throne in their castle and they'll have a talk-show-like session where they all discuss the things they love about you. Heh!
(2) The title screen reflects the time of day it is in the game, so, when you start, you know if you should go to bed or amass your army for more quests, accordingly.
(3) Every Japanese RPG (like) Series needs a mascot; The Onii are IT in this game. Like the Slimes in DQ, they may be the first kingdom you defeat, but they persist throughout the game and evolve, sometimes in surprising ways:
(a) You'll see minor variations at first. They'll ride on a ball or cow.
(b) They'll become a serious threat sometimes: The Oniion Rings are nearly invincible!
(c) After you defeat certain Guardians or Open areas they'll take on super-surprising forms:
Once defeating your first Dragon, for example, they will wander certain areas as the "Dragon
Delivery Service." A few of them actually carry the SEVERED HEAD and TAIL of a Dragon (!) and
mimic a full grown dragon's attack style!! The thing is, the head group and tail group are two
separate life meters and attack independently, making them TWICE as deadly as the original
Dragon!
Wandering into the Bony Plains, you'll notice groups of four Onii carrying a Dead Cow...! They
charge you, using this dead cow as a battering ram, mimicking a charging bull!
(d) You'll also see Onii pogo-ing around on a Dragon's foot on a stick... Or, even better, you'll
encounter the Onii Rangers: A group of Five Onii (Red, Blue, Yellow, Black and Green) that attack
as a pack, all having special powers! (Heh! So cool!)

Remember these guys? Hideo Minaba (art director on Final Fantasy XII), Kazuyuki Kurashima (designer of Moon and Endnesia), Youichi Kawaguchi (main programmer on Dragon Quest VIII) and Yoshirou Kimura (Moon, Chulip)...?
These are the fabled Project O guys that collaborated to make this game. Their influence and the overall homage to ALL GREAT JAPANESE RPG series is evident throughout the ENTIRE game, giving it a level of polish and production values on par with a few rare companies! (SquEnix and Nintendo come immediately to mind!)
Yeah one thing about the game is that its not like most other Marvelous games, this is polished like a Nintendo game.
Those Oni with the hula rings, how do you beat them?
rragnaar said:I've only put about 5 hours into the game, but I love it. I've been busy with work, and moving into a new apartment, so I haven't had time to really tear into this, but it is a fantastic game.
A rare Rag appearance, like spotting a creature in Monster Hunter. Should I deftly stalk you?
The problem I have with this game is because its so charming and I love the music so much, I get caught up replaying areas getting cash to build more stuff. Rather than getting on with the main campaign.
What do you guys think of the oversaturated lighting?

I love how the game looks. I've always been a fan of colorful games.

I prefer blurry to jaggy any day of the week.

Then you would love the N64.
I started playing this again this morning, not sure if I will continue only because I want to complete Broken sword next.
Anyhow, almost in shock I how much I love it. I forgot as I haven't played it in a while. The first thing I did was watch the intro with the little chalkboard animation, then Land of freaking Hope and glory played out and then I cleared the path to Shiskaboo. Still cannot beat this ass without the miners I just cleared the way of cake obstacles. Now I am going to try and find a guardian, the mighty knight to beat his ass.
I'm 10 hrs in and haven't beaten Shiskaboo? How long is this game?
You gotta watch Baboo, while sending in troops, WHILE watching the King so HE doesn't die! Luckily, if you do, you CAN continue indefinitely...
I THINK if you lose troops in a boss battle they do not perma-die.
