I only played Vampire Smile (and that was amazing) so I am not the best person to ask. I think Travo played the original, and I think you can download a demo, but either way, I think you can't go wrong however you choose.
I assume you have Halo 2, so now just pick up Halo ODST and Wars and you have the whole story! You can probably get both now for about $10 to $15 each.

I am not getting Wars. ODST if really cheap. I totally forgot everything that happened in Halo 2. There was an elite fighting a gorilla and some floating chair guy being a dick. Thats all I remember.
I was about to throw my controller through my new TV last night, wow Gears got super hard quick. Crazy ass exploding arrow guys. But the worse part is the HORRIBLE checkpoint placement. No lets not start the checkpoint right when the action starts, instead you have to go through a long walking segment and a bunch of dialogue. Grrrr. I did get through it on hard and it felt awesome. Its the good kind of hard so far, I think I needed this game right now. Skyrim isn't really doing it for me and maybe its cause I just did Zelda and its too much swords and big worlds. Sometimes you just need to blow stuff up with guns

Ahh but they do have sales and stuff, I got Mario Galaxy 2 for 19.99 used and DKC 17.50 used recently. So if you wait and are watchful of sites like cheapass gamer, Glyde, and Family Video, Gamefly. You get can games barely used for a fraction of the new cost. Less than a year after release in most cases.
PS. not to mention I got Zelda Skyward Sword the other day for 24.99 Special at Newegg it was 44.99 and Google had a 1 day sale if you buy a 20 dollar Newegg GC they matched it with another $20 GC so basically I used that and wound up getting Zelda for 24.99 with free 2 day UPS!
