Red Steel 2 Studio Interview VIDEO from IGN
Red Steel 2 screens and interview From Wii Italia - yet its in English
Wiitalia: what do you think about Ubisoft’s decision to cut-off the sales expectation from 1 million to half a million? Are Ubisoft going to leave Red Steel 2 without any kind of advertisment like many other games, such as Dead Space Extraction, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories or No More Heroes 2?
JV: The game was set to be released in Christmas and this kind of delay could affect sales. I think that this estimate is pretty conservative and I think that it’s a good thing. We have to wait and see how people will receive the game. I firmly believe that if you make a game that have something new that players haven’t experienced before, people will buy it.
As a game developer, I can tell you that if you see a game that are not well marketed, is usually because the marketing groups doesn’t believe it’s going to sell. That was the case of Dead Space Extraction, I think. EA was to afraid to jump in and loses moneys. This kind of things can happen for sure but I know that with Red Steel 2 it will not be the case. In every meeting that I’ve been in, Ubisoft was always so excited for the game, so I can tell you that the company believe in the game

Why does this trailer not work? I get an advert then nothing.

At least its an excuse to get motionplus. Seeing as you never want to play a Zelda game, ever.

I saw a pink wiimote with Motion+, sort of want, but white nunchuk is going to look jarring.
You sure that's a controller and not.... something else that vibrates with batteries?
Imagine what Pinky would say if you handed that to her and asked her to play Red Steel?
Got a better link to the trailer

I'm going to tell that to her today. She thinks you're a polite english gentleman instead of the dirty pervert you actually are.

Of course! They taste like cotton candy.
That's what you said about my balls as well, perhaps you have some disorder in your taste buds.

Hush you!
Do not destroy the image of me.
Not until she saves enough in Animal Crossing for my Crown.
Mdk7 from GAFI played the game at E3 and got a little disappointed with it: the graphics were nice and the art surely stunning, but the gameplay felt sluggish and the controls were not as mind blowing as i expected them to be (the Kendo in Wii Sports Resort was sooooo much better in every single way).
Last week i played it again and frankly i was pretty much blown away by the improvements.
The graphics are now fuck-amazing (visuals are super crisp and clean, colors are vibrant and it runs sooo smoothly... 60fps FTW!!), the controls work very well in terms of responsiveness and feeling (i love the fact that it's a truly phisical game, a real swordfighting experience that makes you sweat!) and the action is brutally intense (the rhythm is just perfect, you keep switching between swords and guns in a furious alternation of melee and ranged attacks).
Despite the steep learning curve it just plays damn good, really.
There's only one aspect that frankly (still) disappointed me: the game design is a little demodé, with one room full of enemies after another and corridors between them... A structure that was perfectly fine in 2000, not so much in 2010.
But really it went pretty much from "no thanks" to "drool drool day one" for me.
Oh and Jason VandenBerghe is the coolest guy in the biz, period.

Well now that Ubisoft have lowered their sales expectations there doesn't seem to be that pressure to be a huge success anymore. If it makes the 500k they expect then I guess its done what they expected and anything above is gravy.
If three COD downports can sell over a mill each then a ground up effort deserves more, so I'm hopeful it will do well.
Bundling motionplus though, wont that eat into the profit? Or is nintendo giving them discounts?
angrymonkey said:That Jason guy seemed to think that 500k was conservative, or is he just saying that? I would think anything less than a million would be a disappointment just considering the first one's sales. And I would have thought that this game (if 85% or better reviews) would be eagerly awaited. But now I don't know. It's not going to get a lot of non gamers I don't think, especially if there's no tv ads and it doesn't have a mass market name like star wars. And for gamers, it's like there's all these schisms. For a combat game with no motion - people will get no more heroes and the people that like multiplayer will get monster hunter instead and the people that want the motion stuff will get red steel. Some people will get all of them. It's quite a mix of customers.Nintendo has to be giving them some kind of deal for the bundling they still need to get these out to everyone.Hey - gaf should be putting your thread back up soon.
Well, he said that the estimates were lowered because it missed Christmas.
I think that Ubisoft should be doing a Monster Hunter 3 with this game, market it in an unprecented manner for a 3rd party wii title and see how it goes. It has the production quality, lets see if it sticks.
I dont know if I can bothered doing that GAF thread anymore.
