Michael Bay Claims that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Will Be Aliens. Seriously.

Unpopular opinion of the century: I like Michael Bay. I’m not always forthcoming about my adoration for the much-maligned director, but I honestly enjoy his work. Sure, some of it may be more than a little goofy and a bit long in the tooth, but his output is almost always enjoyable. Save for “Pearl Harbor”, of course. At the 2012 Nickelodeon Upfront in New York City on March 14th, Bay decided to take a moment to explain a little bit about where the franchise is headed. Apparently our favorite ninja turtle heroes won’t be mutants anymore — they will be an “alien race” that’s “completely loveable”. We’ll just have to see about that. Truthfully, as long as the film is entertaining, I really don’t give an mutated rat’s ass about where they came from. I know that may piss off loyalists to the nth degree, but, again, I don’t care.

Director Jonathan Liebesman’s take on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” lands in theaters on December 13th, 2013. When you’re ready, the video featuring Bay’s plans lies below.

John Carter loses Disney £126 million

Science fiction movie starring Taylor Kitsch has become one of the biggest flops of all time

A statement from Disney has confirmed that sci-fi flick 'John Carter' has become one of the biggest flops in movie history. It will lose the company $200 million (£126 million).

Speaking to its shareholders, Disney gravely announced the hit that its studio division would take as a result of their gamble on Pixar director Andrew Stanton's live action debut.

They said: "In light of the theatrical performance of 'John Carter' ($184 million global box office), we expect the film to generate an operating loss of approximately $200 million during our second fiscal quarter ending March 31. As a result, our current expectation is that the Studio segment will have an operating loss of between $80 and $120 million for the second quarter."

Epic fail... Taylor Kitsch in John Carter (Credit: Disney)

The film was dogged by concerns over marketing, which failed to sell the story to its target audience thanks to a nondescript name, confusing trailer and lack of big name stars.

The story of a 19th century American war veteran transported into the middle of a grand-scale conflict on Mars, which was based on the seminal sci-fi novels of 'Tarzan' author Edgar Rice Burroughs, was given a lukewarm reception by critics and audiences.

Disney still have a chance to make back some cash this summer though, with Pixar animation 'Brave' and comic book flick 'Marvel's Avengers Assemble' still to come.

Okay there is no TV hype thread so I will put this here.

If you loved the Battlestar Galactica series there is a new one starring a young Adama: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: BLOOD AND CHROME

BLOOD & CHROME is set in the years preceding the famously revamped BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series from Ron Moore and David Eick, chronicling the adventures of young William Adama (played by Edward James Olmos in the recent series - but portrayed by Luke Pasqualino here) during the Cylon War. Fans of BG may recall that the Cylon War was a significant back story component for that series. B&C has been characterized as much more of a "war" and "action" series than its progenitor/successor...an assertion apparently borne out by the pacing and content of this trailer.

BLOOD & CHROME has been said to utilize a significantly different production model from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, employing a staggering array of virtual sets and environments as opposed to physically constructing costly locations (details HERE). The results? See for yourself below...but keep in mind that much of the physicality surrounding the actors here isn't even real.

Pretty great as far as I'm concerned.

Brett Ratner In Talks To Fuck Up The MIDNIGHT RUN Sequel!

"Ugh. Seriously, I'd prefer a crappy remake of Martin Brest's MIDNIGHT RUN to a Brett Ratner-directed sequel written by studio hacks responsible for the ho-hum FOUR BROTHERS and the straight-up awful G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA.

Universal, on the other hand, desperately wants back in the Ratner business after the commercial disappointment of TOWER HEIST, and they're willing to tarnish one of the studio's best films of the last thirty years in order to re-up with the director. This is the good news coming from Deadline's Michael Fleming, who also reports that David Elliot and Paul Lovett have signed on to dishonor the indelible characters created by George Gallo back in 1988.

Unfortunately, Robert De Niro has already agreed to once again play Jack Walsh, the skip tracer who's unpopular with the Chicago police department. As for Charles Grodin, he's basically retired from acting (he hasn't appeared in a film since 2006's THE EX), but I could see him reprising his role as Jonathan Mardukas as a favor to De Niro.

Or perhaps Grodin will consider it insulting that Universal wouldn't bring back Gallo and Brest (even though the latter lost the studio a ton of money with MEET JOE BLACK), and politely decline. That would be nice. What would also be nice is if Universal made an effort to put together a sequel that's worthy of the title MIDNIGHT RUN. But that doesn't seem to be happening right now."

Trailer for Takashi Miike's High School Musical - AI TO MAKOTO

Following PHOENIX WRIGHT: ACE ATTORNEY, prolific director Takashi Miike has already got another film lined up for release in Japanese cinemas! It is a live action adaptation of the manga AI TO MAKOTO, also known as THE LEGEND OF LOVE AND SINCERITY.

It is a high school romance about two people from two different worlds. The boy Makoto is played by Satoshi Tsumabuki (VILLIAN, VILLON'S WIFE, PANDEMIC, SCHOOL DAYS WITH A PIG), while the girl Ai is played by Emi Takei who has appeared in some television series and will be seen in a number of Japanese films due for release this year.

The trailer looks colorful, beautiful, and different... but in a good way (this is a Miike film after all!).

AI TO MAKOTO will open in Japanese cinemas on June 16.

AICN left THE RAID: REDEMPTION wanting to beat up every person on the entire planet (in a good way)!!!

"Oh, hells yes. At this point, even I'm sick of hearing how awesome THE RAID is. But the sad truth is, THE RAID is a straight shot to the nutsack that hurts so good that the only way to make it feel better is to ask for someone to hit you one more time even harder."

Twitch's Review Roundup: THE RAID: REDEMPTION 4 reviews here from separate reviewers

"Watching The Raid is like riding an out-of-control roller coaster for a whole hour and a half. It is nauseatingly intense and heart-stoppingly thrilling."

The First Trailer for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows Finally Discos Online

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet–or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

Well Go USA have announced the US DVD and Blu-Ray releases of 'Let The Bullets Fly' for the 24th April, 2012. Directed by and starring Jiang Wen ('The Sun Also Rises'), the film centres around a notorious bandit chief who hatches a plan to pose as the major of a remote provincial town.

Synopsis

Two crooks with secrets up their sleeves battle for control of a Chinese town in this action comedy. It's the era of the Chinese warlords in the 1920s, and the new governor of Goosetown (Feng Xiaogang) is taking the train into town with his wife (Carina Lau) and right-hand man Tang (Ge You). However, a handful of bandits led by Pocky Zhang (Jiang Wen) want to capture the train, and the explosion they set proves bigger than they expected and the new governor is killed. Pocky realizes no one in Goosetown has seen the new governor, so he decides to take his place, and the dead governor's wife and Tang are forced to play along. Meanwhile in Goosetown, Huang (Chow Yun-Fat) is a powerful criminal who deals in slaves and opium; he's convinced one of his many enemies will kill him, so he employs a simple-minded local man who looks exactly like him (also played by Chow Yun-Fat) to serve as his decoy. When Pocky arrives in town, he goes out of his way to make friends with his new 'constituents,' and Huang sees he has a powerful rival for the loyalties of the community. The rivalry between Pocky and Huang escalates into a shooting war, though Huang doesn't know Pocky isn't the real governor and Pocky doesn't realize there's more than one Huang.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Actually LOST Money?

Despite a $230 million worldwide box office (and $102 million Stateside), David Fincher’s remake of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is said to be a “loss” for MGM. That’s, uh, pretty surprising. The film was made for $90 million (admittedly way too much for a simple crime drama without outrageous CGI or invading aliens), but it also had a very expensive advertising campaign that essentially blanketed the airwaves ahead of the film’s release.

Of course, this could all just be MGM’s way of trying to get more of the percentage of profits from Sony, who apparently pocketed most of the money from the film’s success. Assuming it doesn’t cost the same ridiculous amount, I don’t see why Sony/MGM wouldn’t team up to make the sequel to “Dragon Tattoo”, “The Girl who Played With Fire”, and possibly the third movie as well.

But hey, at least the studio MADE money on “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. Disney, meanwhile, is still trying to swim out from underneath the stink of “John Carter”, which has just barely passed the $50 million mark after two weeks of release.

Teaser For 'The Life Of Guskou Budori'

The teaser trailer has been released for 'The Life Of Guskou Budori', a new animated adaptation of Kenji Miyazawa's famous fairy tale. The story follows a young cat who happily lives with his family in the Tohoku forests. However, a string of terrible natural disasters leave him both homeless and all alone.

Synopsis

The fairy tale follows a young cat named Guskou in the Tohoku forests of northeastern Japan in the 1920s. After an onslaught of droughts and natural disasters, Guskou loses his family and is forced to leave his home to search for a better life elsewhere. Guskou eventually joins a group of scientists at the Ihatov Volcano Department, which deals with the same natural disasters that drove Guskou from his home.

'The Life Of Guskou Budori' is directed by Gisaburo Sugii and features the vocal talents of Shun Oguri, Shiori Kutsuna, Akira Emoto, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Tamiyo Kusakari, and Ryuzo Hayashi. The film is due for release across Japan on the 7th July, 2012.

Wrath of the Titans Twitchfilm Review

Although time will tell whether WRATH OF THE TITANS proves as forgettable as its 2010 predecessor, this much is certain: like THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, here we have another sequel that surpasses its original. (Keep an ear out for a reference to that film, by the way.) This perfectly non-essential bit of cinema has a long future as an eye-popping demo reel for the visual technicians involved, and in the meantime, should not incur the wrath of filmgoers.

Wrath of the Titans Beyond Hollywood Review

“Wrath of the Titans” is a big improvement over the first movie, not just because the CGI is vastly improved, but also because it has more going for it than plot points that I already knew coming in. Visually, the movie earns its production budget, and there’s just the right amount of gloss and grime to the sets to be appealing.

I loved the Titanic movie, but I'm not shelling out big bucks for it.  If I didn't see Star Wars in 3D, I'm not seeing Titanic in 3D.

I'd watch Titanic in the theater again, but not in 3D. 3D hurts my eyes too much. If there is a 2D version, I'll definitely go see it.

Hmm, maybe they will finally release it on Blu-ray soon. Please, Mr Cameron? I'll take back all the bad things I said about Avatar! Well, most of them anyway. Nyaa
