So, Robocop, Total Recall.

What other movies from our childhoods should be ressurected?

None, and neither should they.

Review: THE WOMAN KNIGHT OF MIRROR LAKE (Herman Yau)

With Woman Knight Yau finally reaches his true potential. He obviously benefited from directing the Yip Man prequel, using that experience to create a more immersive historical universe and more entertaining fight sequences. But the real perk of Woman Knight is the hero of Yau's film. While female martial artists aren't exactly novel (think The Heroic Trio), this is the first time I've actually watched a film about Chinese feminism. Coupled with some impressive martial arts follies, it turns Qiu Jin into a real strong and powerful character.

While this film could be perfect for Yau's international career, Woman Knight seems to be slipping by international audiences without the proper buzz. A real shame because Yau is clearly still developing himself as a director (and still getting better at it). The result is a film that neatly balances drama and martial arts entertainment and talks about something that usually deserves very little attention in Chinese/Hong Kong (action) films. Fans of Yau should expect a cleaner and less gritty adoption of his trademark style, other people should be aware that Woman Knight can be a bit more direct than other, more typical martial arts epics. Recommended.

Don't forget about the DC animated movies, Justice League stuff and all.

Its animation, it will never compare to a live action movie. it is not the same thing.

Vader, Planet Hulk is better than any of the released live action Hulks. Most of the DC Animated films are better than Live action super hero films, for instance the Live action Green Lantern sucked balls. Most of the DC animated movies top stuff like Ben Afflecks Daredevil. Hell they are better than Depps Iron Man films.

Thor Tales of Asgard is a great companion film to the live action Thor and just as fun, maybe moreso.

I am not saying which is better, I am saying they are two very different things. An animated movie cannot create the same reality a live action movie can. Seeing a character we only have seen drawn brought to life is so different, such a cool thing to see.  I will never get excited for an animated movie as I do for a live action one, to me live action is so much more special.

I don't know, The DC Wonder Woman movie is better than the live action Captain America film. With comic book heroes, the natural place to see them is in animation as it is like the comic book art come to life. They are allowed more freedom, no financial constraints and they can choose good graphic novel stories to adapt and not reworked hollywood stories with limp endings.

Again not about which is better. I think the Xmen cartoon was better than the movie but the movie was a dream come true to finally see Xmen become REAL.

When it's done right, yeah live action is better, but when it's average or fudged I would rather stick to the better stories in the animated adventures. There is some really good stuff if you know where to look, if you love X-Men, really try renting Wolverine and the X-Men.

All Star Superman is the best Superman movie outisde the original 70s one.

^ I dont know, Wolverine should not be the leader of the X-Men.  I did not like that they try to turn him into that in X3. Wolverine is part of the X-Men that is all. Plus I love 90s X-Men, i dont care for any of the new stuff.

I own the whole series of 90s X-men and it is good but not a patch on other series like the Spiderman 1994 series. There are much better shows, Gargoyles, Avatar, Batman, Justice League etc.

Wolverine and the X-men is better too and wolverine as leader works too as he is still in contact with Prof X in the future and Cyclops is all emo after he loses Jean, Rogue has turned traitor. It's much more coherent, consistent and intriging than the 90s series, but the 90s series has more variety in storylines as it is somewhat episodic and has 4 and 5 parters covering big X-Men storylines like Dark Phoenix.

Yeah that is why I liked the 90s X-men, it covered so much of X-men history. That is how I see the X-Men I dont care for what else came after.  I enjoyed X-men more than Spider-Man. Batman is the gold standard though.

Oh so you do like Avatar. Nyaa (I know what you mean)

The only reason Beckinsale still gets work is because of Wiseman. I think that is why Milla Jovovich married Paul Anderson.

It's getting ugly.

Vincent Zhao Tells His Side Of The Story: 'Donnie Yen Was The Unpleasant One Who Acted Like A Big Shot'

While it is official that Andy On has replaced Vincent Zhao in SPECIAL IDENTITY, the feud between Zhao and the film's production crew is ongoing. It all started when rumors were spreading that Zhao acted like a big shot on set (including having an entourage of 7-8 people) and had poor work ethics (by not showing up for filming). In response, Zhao expressed his dissatisfaction that the script was changed without his approval. Then despite reported meetings between Donnie Yen, Vincent Zhao and the film crew, no agreements could be reached. Zhao eventually left the production and was given a very short notice to vacate the (reportedly very expensive) hotel room where he was staying.

With the feeling that his reputation has been ruined, and also gaining the support of a number of past collaborators, Zhao has now revealed his side of the story in an interview. During it, he said that it was Donnie Yen who demanded major script changes, including changes to previously agreed fight scenes, and those changes led Zhao's character to become a supporting rather than a lead role. Zhao also described frequent arguments on set, with Yen acting like a big shot, frequently yelling and swearing at the film crew including the director.

In response to the allegations, SPECIAL IDENTITY director Clarence Fok (NAKED KILLER) expressed his support for Donnie Yen, denied arguments on set, and stated that the script had to be revised because it was not good enough. The film's cinematographer Peter Pau (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON) said that Yen is very professional and that it is a pleasure to be working with him. Donnie Yen, on the other hand, has not publicly spoken but has written on the Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo that he is 'disappointed and hurt, but not shaken' and that he will make his film even better.

-------------

Although Yen is the bigger box office draw and I like his movies I believe Zhao's side of the story more. He was great in True Legend but he is not a major star and would not act in that manner. It was his excellent role in True Legend that put him up for the leading dual role in Special Identity. It sounds like Yen wanted to be the star and have Zhao as a lesser character. Zhao didn't want that and according to the rules script changes had to be approved by both actors. Yens camp is trying to portray Zhao as a spoilt brat and ruin his reputation.

UltraViolet™ Digital Copy

Sneak Peak at Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, the next DC Universe Animated Original Movie

Featurette – “The Elite Unbound: No Rules, No Mercy” – A short documentary focused upon The Elite, and their arc of character throughout the comics. Even the anti-heroes have their own struggles … and triumphs. It’s all highlighted in this compelling film that begins with the inspiration of The Authority, and how The Elite became the answer to that book, and a fresh approach for DC Comics in the post 9/11 world. It was an unexpected twist to the pages of Action Comics, and this documentary summarizes the true potency of these Elite.

Featurette – “Superman and the Moral Debate” – There’s a prevailing thought about ending terrorism and ridding our Earth of the maladjusted once and for all – by fighting fire with fire! This is the story of The Elite, a band of fringe Superheroes who were compelled to eradicate the Earth of its scum, its tyranny and evil once and for all, not with words, but with raw unadulterated action, designed to kill their opponents. This is their controversial story.
