http://goneisgone.blogspot.com/

In March 2008, the company announced an agreement with Brash Entertainment to develop a movie tie-in for a release in 2010. The project was an untitled Superman game for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. However, in November 2008 Brash Entertainment had to file bankrupty. Eggebrecht was still kind of confident on the project’s status:

"Things are obviously in flux and we hope that the game proves to be as indestructible as our hero…"

Since a new publisher could not be found in December 2008, the game did not prove to be as indestructible. Factor 5 were forced to lay half of their staff – around 35 people; they could neither fund development of such a high-budget game on their own nor assign all developers to their other projects.

So what are these other projects? We can only say that those are two Wii games and a technology project and that work is still going on. One of their Wii titles is even planned for a release this year. But it is evident that Factor 5's 2005 announcement of moving away from producing franchise kind of failed when Sony terminated their contract. So could the project be Kid Icarus? Pilotwings? Who knows...

While we cannot go into detail, we may reveal that you will be able to fly to London, to Athens, to Lisbon or even to the Netherlands in one of the new titles. Expect to see more in the coming months.

I can picture them doing a good PilotWings game. Hope the Wii is a better tool for them to make a good solid flight game with great controls unlike Lair was.

Is that what this infers?

I only played the SNES Pilotwings like well over a decade ago.

CEO Achim Moller:

http://www.factor5.com/

We are sorry to announce the closure of the San Rafael-based Factor 5, Inc. studio, but the obstacles created by the sudden bankrupcy of Brash Entertainment for the continuation of operations have turned out too great to overcome in the current economic climate.

Factor 5 GmbH, which has been creating games since 1988 with its headquarter in Cologne, Germany, is entirely unrelated to Factor 5, Inc. and the circumstances surrounding Factor 5 Inc.'s recent challenges. Altough we are saddened by Factor 5 Inc.'s situation, our corporation will remain unaffected by these developments and has partnered with both old and nwe friends in the industry who will reveal our upcoming projects over the next months.

We would like to thank everybody on the publishing and development side who have supported us throughout the last 20 years and continue to do so. The current transition of the games industry is challenging, but as with transitions prior there is more opportunity than ever for independent development out there.

Achim Moller, CEO Factor 5 GmbH

Factor 5 Wii game cancellations continue.

As we have got to know, former Factor 5 assets and projects were transferred to the new start-up "White Harvest LLC", basically Factor 5 just with less employees and without PS3/X360 projects. While the lawsuit - which was filed by former Factor 5 employees - said that White Harvest LLC resumed work on Project Blue Harvest (a new Rogue Squadron title for Wii), there was another game in development which was cancelled only last month. Started in February, the project is said to have been a conversion of a large open world game, probably Superman. However, it seems as if the publisher (EA?) did not have enough faith in the game. As a result, layoffs happened again.

Nevertheless, White Harvest LLC continues their work on another Wii game which may or may not be announced this year. It is also noteworthy that
Achim Moller reports that there are multiple Factor 5 projects for Wii. Sadly, it cannot be confirmed whether this includes the cancelled project or whether there is another Wii project in development at the studio. News may hit at this months gamescom though.

Superman looked good, I would have liked to play that and Rogue Squadron 4 and the Pilotwings game and the rumoured Kid Icarus. WTF is going on? Sad

There was still hope for Rogue Squadron 4 but now ex-employees are putting the legal kick in the nuts in it.
