One other thing that puts me off is that not only is it not in your typical RE territory i.e Africa and not this modern city/backwater dracula type setting. It has no characters bar Wesker that I recognise. Chris isn't Chris, he's some weird beefcake and now we know that you know who has died too.
I think that maybe it was a mistake to finish off Umbrella. I actually liked the characters in Code Veronica the most.

We have to face facts that RE5 is going to be a solid action game with an RE story/characters sprinkled in for good measure.
Shame really - BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL RE4 CONCEPT I SAY!!! Bring back the foggy hook-man and the creepy DOLL!!

Chris Kramer from Capcom said recently that the game wasn't survival horror. He said it was a co-op action game. I think the problem for me is that by getting away from STARS and the US and changing the look of such a well known character as well has having such a different environment is that what they have done is remove all the trappings of a RE game, the signs that told us that it was a RE game. In RE4 for instance you still had a hokey castle and science labs and what not. RE5 has some science lab sections, but RE4 just had this hokey horror movie vibe going that kept it in line with the atmosphere of the series as a whole.
Without those trappings the game seems to sort of merge into any number of other over the shoulder shooters - at least in screens. Another problem is imitation. When you have an original game or concept it gets copied ad nauseum, so by the time you have the sequel to that original game you've already seen several different variants on the game. Dead Space for instance. Which makes the new sequel seem somehow less original.
But gameplay wise it looks very much like resident evil, it will still have the gameplay, the hokey cutscenes, inventory system. I'm still a little worried about the new control scheme, yes I know you can use the old controls. But what worries me that when the controls change so does the gameplay so did they tool the gameplay around which control set exactly?
Another thing that bugs me about this game and a game like FFXIII isn't so much the games themselves, just the fact that because of next gen costs and development, it has taken soooooo long to get these games out. I'm almost burned out on hype at this point. You can't maintain anticipation for a game when its rolled out every year as the game to have and a year, two years, three years, fours years you are still waiting.
Well finally tried the demo and I love it. The game looks amazing and it's pretty intense stuff. Controls pretty much like RE4 which is fine by me and Sheva was quite a competent AI controlled partner. Of course it'll be more fun with a human partner. Still 10/10 for my anticipation of this game can't wait to get it.

No you can't at least that I'm not aware of. She seems to do a great job of getting out of my line of fire. Well the demo isn't really that long and it's pretty much everything we've all seen and heard about the game before. I really liked the controls which for the most part just like RE4 with the exception of being able to select items in your inventory on the fly via a direction on the d-pad. You help your partner in various situations such as lifting them up so they can get on a rooftop so they can get items and provide cover from there. They can also access locked doors from the other side to open them up for you. If you are close together you can help each other out if one gets grabbed by the enemy. You can be down but not out and your partner can pick you up ala Gears of War.
Here's a question that is a game killer for me. Can Sheva die in normal gameplay and are you responsible for her health and safety? For example if I am doing fine and off screen would she suddenly die and the game end?

I think so although I couldn't tell you for sure because when I got the game over from dieing screen it was because I died. I'll have to try it some more and deliberatly try to let her die. The computer controlled Sheva was very competant and helped me out much more then I helped her out.

GAF is having a bit of a moan about the controls, but if they are like RE4 as you say then I'm definitely up for this.
I do really hope that the locations are varied like RE4, and that there are some night scenes etc. Can't be doing with this hot sunny day out shooting peeps with factor-25 on my skin and shit.

And that's another potential game killer. How much does she help you out? Because if its too much or too little I can see some people get annoyed. If she acts as some sort of life buoy when you are about to get canned because of your lack of skill. You would WANT to be killed and not saved by an AI. I can see some people restarting to avoid that situation to play the game on their own merits as it were.

So you can only shoot people at night? You'd be useless in Afganistan

The least they could do is have the game starting around about sunset, so at least it looks eery, rather than a sunny spanish holiday!

It looks more like a political movie or a war film. Really not sure it suits the franchise. But at the same time I appreciate that they are doing something different. Looking at some screens though, if it weren't for the tiny S.T.A.R.S like badge on Chris' arm or familiar staples like the chainsaw guy, it could be any other action game. In screens at least.
SteelAttack said:Tried the demo last night. Completed the first half of it. I marveled watching Sheva's ass and was saved by her more times than I can count. I dislike the run button, and Chris moves awfully slow (I mean, he turns) while aiming. Even though there were lots of enemies around, the AI controlled Sheva performed rather good. I still have to try this with a living partner.
Hmmmmmmm. *eyes narrow*

Lol. It's true! I must be even stupider than the zombie AI. I would have been killed lots of times without her. However, I've read enough complaints from more seasoned RE junkies about her getting in their lines of sight, and overall making the whole deal more chaotic/hectic than it should be.
Considering we are talking about a zombie onslaught, of course.

They also complain about the hassle that is deciding whether to use, or give to Sheva, any item you find around, and that the real time menu is almost as clunky as the controls.
There is something so right and yet so wrong about seeing El Gigante back. He seems out of place in Africa like seeing Dracula in his cape in the sahara. That bat creature looks good.
