Um, ok, well I dont like them acting like no RE game came after RE3, are they stupid (Gamepro so yes).

Let me do this.

Main Charater: RE4 easy, Chris is a moron. Leon was a cocky dick but he was funny at times, he seemed to get whats going on. Chris on the other hand is clueless, has no personality and Sheva is totally lost all the time. For instance Wesker says "HA I am going to destroy the world!!", Sheva then asks "Chris, is Wesker really going to destory the world?"

Story: Ok this one is complicated cause the story in RE5 is much more interesting, much more emotional BUT its not executed nearly as well as RE4 and it takes forever in RE5 to get the story going. It falls flat in areas that should have been very emotional. Good thing is that everything with Wesker is awesome. I'll give this one a tie cause RE4 does much more with what it had.

Weapons: Uhh well RE4 had a more interesting cast of weapons, each had their own unique name, in RE5 they went with real world names, kind of lost its personality. But RE5 has more weapons, takes much longer to upgrade. Again though RE4 handled the system better, RE5 did it more sloppy (see a pattern). So RE5 if you want sheer variety and size, RE4 for better implementation of upgrading and usefulness of each gun.

Enemies and Bosses: Winner RE4. Yes in RE5 they are faster, stronger, and probably more enemies but so many are similar to what was in RE4. RE4 did it first, it introduced all new types of RE enemies plus gave us a bunch of cool monsters. There is nothing in RE5 as creppy and awesome as the regenerators. Lickers in RE5 was awesome tough. In terms of bosses RE5 has huge over the top bosses, each with a sort of trick to defeating them, its almost MGSish. RE4 has amazing bosses as well and I feel they were handled better.

I am not going to do the single player multiplayer breakdown cause thats too obvious. Instead:

Overall game experience: RE4 again, its longer, has more memorable moments, better pacing and just feels polished in every way. RE5 is like a Michael Bay version of RE4, its bigger in terms of scope, more explosions, more giant monsters, but not as well made. In RE5 the single player will have issues cause the AI while excellent can only do so much. Online, yeah RE5 is a ton of fun, doesn't change the fact that the games design was altered to be more about killing enemies in large areas than the smaller room to room exploration of RE4. RE5 is amazing, it has some areas as as well thought out and interesting as RE4 but not as many.

How scary is it:  RE4 by a landslide. RE4 has many creepy locations and moments, RE5 not so much.

I'm adding one - Replay Value: RE5, yes RE4 is a masterpiece that you can play over and over but RE5 gives you far more reasons to play multiple times. RE5 has so much content that it can take 7, 8, 9 times to see it all. So many ways to play and it keeps track of it all.

Overall: RE4 of course. But RE5 is not the RE3 example, at least not to me. Its more RECV to RE2, RE2 was better but CV was right up there.

Not only that RE3 gaffe, their bonus round screenshot comparisons used the PS2 version of RE4 for screens.

LOL He should of said "What did he JUST say?"

So RE5 is Michael Bay? So is there golden lighting, smoke effects and half the movie is slow mo?

Oh yeah and does Chris unveil some massive stars and stripes at any point in the movie? Nyaa

How long is the single player in RE5 anyhow? On normal difficulty?

Yes plenty of gold lighting, lots of smoke and explosions and some slow mo. No American flag though.

On normal, from what I have seen anywhere from 8-12 hours depending on how fast you go.

So I played about an hour. Ehhh.

If I had Xbox Live and had downloaded this as a demo, I would not have bought the final game.

What genius at Capcom thought that realtime item management was a good idea?

Sheva is pissing me off. Isn't she suppossed to have the best non-player AI ever or something? She runs about like a chicken, she always has to get her ass into the camera view. She stands in front of you. There was actually a point where I was trying to aim at a bunch of enemies and her character model was plumb in the middle.

She's also like a nanny. I walk towards a crate I want to bash in and she dives in and does it herself. I walk towards a door I want to open and she runs in quickly and does it for me. CAN I JUST PLAY THE GAME MYSELF THANKS?

Then I was in the top floor of this house, I walk near a window to look outside and the crazy bitch suddenly decides to launch herself out the window.

The controls are weird, I set them to mode B to get them closer to RE4 but they still aren't right, making you swap sticks to aim and I miss the giant A button of the GC controller.

It doesn't really feel like RE at all so far. The setting the characters or the sunlight. This could be any modern game. Chris Refield is unfamiliar. After so many years I know how Chris looks and how his voice actor sounds, this beefcake is a stranger.

I can get used to most of this but what I can't get used to is Gears of War like stuff, having to babysit a secondary character who yells for help and sits on your shoulder. But the realtime item management is going to PEE me off in the most heinous way.

Also the graphics are some of the best I've seen on the system, but its like they present you with this realistic looking world and you think, okay I will go there. But there are invisible walls all over the place and strangely it feels more confusing and more restrictive than something like RE4.

The audio for spoken voices is pretty muffled and that isn't helped by the 360 fan wheezing in the corner of my room. But the worst thing so far is that the game has crashed my system twice, with a red and white checked pattern on the screen. I'm going to try on my bros system tommorrow to see if its my system.

Umm, I don't want to jinx you, but your 360 might be on its way to kick the bucket. That checked pattern has appeared each time my two previous 360s went belly up.

Hope it's just regular crashes, though.

It took me a few hours of playing the demo to get comfortable with Sheva, once you do its an extremely well done AI. Pretend she is not there go about your buisness and she will cover you. If she asks for help then help her, its really simple. The only times she will get into serious trouble are in boss fights and maybe one or two sections. Make sure to give her weapons though. I basically gave her a pistol and a sub machine gun, I took all the other weapons, she is excellent with just those two, her accuracy is way better than yours, believe me.

She jumped out of the window cause she was supposed to, you are supposed to as well, pay attention.

You are on the wrong control scheme, choose D, that is RE4 controls.

No way around real time inventory, just know the short cuts, remember d-pad to switch between the four slots in your inventory. In the inventory use the aim button to instantly equip an item, no need to enter that menu to choose an option. In time it becomes easy.

I cant pretend she is not there because she always runs in front of me to get in camera shot like some desperate wannabe actress trying to get face time Sad

I hate having to help other characters like this in game. I dont want my success in the game to be dependent on anything other than my own skill, not by having some character die off screen.

How is D RE4 control? The left stick strafes and the right stick is camera movement. B is closer, it tethers to camera and you movement to the left stick.

Explain this: "In the inventory use the aim button to instantly equip an item"

One other complaint is that its a virtual RE4 re-run so far, strange vilage, human sacrifice type situation, surrounded in building etc. Even the bit when you first come across an infected villager. Chris is a moron too, some guys is choking to death and he pats him on the shoulder "Are you allright?"

It would be hilarious if the guy looked at Chris and said "Yes thanks, doing really well."

Oops I think its A, A is the RE4 scheme. Its 100% identical.

Shoot at Sheva, she wont get hurt, you can shoot right through her if she gets in your way which she mostly wont.

Yeah I know, its a pain not beating it with only your skill, managing her sadly becomes a part of staying alive, its not as bad as it seems but its there so I get your point. Of course if you had a PS3 we could play, then it would be better.

Explain this: "In the inventory use the aim button to instantly equip an item", I mean exactly that. In the inventory screen if you press the aim button, on PS3 its R1 for me, the item I am on will instantly be equiped. Say i want to equip an herb, I dont have to press X then navigate the next menu that says use/share/equip. If I just press R1 on it its in my hand which you can quickly use. It makes getting in and out of menus much faster.

Its like RE4, as the game goes on it starts to have new ideas, which is why I like the later level far more than the first two. But its always sticks with the formula.

Yeah that's exactly what I did, except I stuck with the default control scheme. I never had many problems with Sheva's AI aside from her sometimes getting in my view, mostly in tight corridors. I found she is quite useful in locating items that weren't immediately visible. If you see her busting up crates just run over there because once you're a certain distance she'll back off and let you pick up the item or tell her to pick it up.

Share ammo with her, let her pick some up. Quick way to give her something, open menu, goto ammo, press the aim button, now its equiped in your hand, get next to her and press the give button (the icon will show up). This way if she moves you can move with her and always have the ammo ready to give, if you try to do that in menu you will have to close it, chase her and go into the menu again. I can do it in about a second or 2. Nyaa

This is like the RE Zero of RE4 games.

I'm all for co-op and having a second character, but why force me to play it in single player like this? Sad

Never say that blasphemy! Its not RE Zero, Zero was sucky on top of having all those extra partner issues. RE5 is awesome, but has the extra partner issues. I agree though, single player should have just stayed single player.

Yes  you are defenseless. Make sure you are close to her when you do this. You are defenseless while in the menu as well, this way you are defenseless but able to move.

If you have her equipped with the handgun and machine gun then whenever you first come across this type of ammo just press the B button to tell her to pick it up that way you don't have to keep going into your inventory. I also used a handgun to along with other weapons so occassionly I would pick up some ammo for myself.

Much better option. Curiously though, I found myself having run out of pistol bullets even in the first hour, are they hiding the damn things? I think I had to give Sheva some cause she ran out and then I had 6 left.

Ammo is found on dead people as well as crates and desks in the environment, its just like RE4.
