It may be, the name sounds familiar. Whats the exact name of the game? Anyone have boxart or screens?
Doesn't ring a bell.
Did anyone play that Blade runner graphic adventure?

Yes! I thought it was a lot better than the film in fact.
angrymonkey said:That's impossible - time to die.(unless maybe you're harrison ford - I think he didn't like it. He was a Fool.)
It was the director's cuts he didn't like I think.
Anyway Blade Runner:
Great atmosphere, cinematography, soundtrack, good performances of the main characters on the plus.
The minus side:
Terrible script mostly, terribly under-developed characters save a few, and very very poorly explored themes that could've been pretty interesting. Oh, and very very poorly developed plot.
It's like a 6-7/10 at the most. I still like it, it's just full of flaws that the atmosphere and Harrison Ford just barely make up for.
Oh, and the female replicant's piano playing is so horrible that when Ford says "you play wonderfully" or whatever it was made me lol way too much to take the scene that should've been poignant seriously.
angrymonkey said:I read he disagreed with ridley a lot, didn't like the idea of his character being a replicant, thought the film should have more detective elements and possibly wanted his character to be more heroic. I'm going off of vague memory though.Your criticism seems well thought out (what bugged you with the script and themes?) . Won't really argue about how you rate it. Unless you want to tell me that escape from new york is a nine - that would be funny.
I thought the dialogue was generally pretty bad, and really got in the way of a lot of the performances. Especially early on. That might be because they just copy and pasted the dialogue from the book which often doesn't work. But I've not read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep so I don't know. It's worth noting that in A Scanner Darkly they had a lot of lines directly from the book and I didn't really have any problems with the dialogue in that.
Come to think of it those things do sound familiar, but I thought it might've just been with some of the latter cuts where it was more implied that he was or was likely a replicant. As for the themes I loved the ideas behind the themes, but to me they weren't very well explored at all. There were some good moments with both Ford's love interest and the main female replicant he was chasing (especially when she and the guy were with the person that designed them) from what I remember, but mostly it seemed to me it didn't really go into anything very deeply at all. I'm all for leaving things for the audience to think about, but if you are going to have the themes as a major part of the film you're going to have to have them be a bigger part than something lurking in the background, then vaguely explored on and off without cohesion.
That said they could easily have over done it too I suppose, but they didn't find the balance there for me at all.
In terms of entertainment hells yeah! Evaluated under the same circumstances nope.

I hear he sleeps with Half Life 2 under his pillow.

Well Blade Runner would be one of the things that I like, so it would seem that you'd be laughing at yourself as well. Oh, and Mass Effect too!
angrymonkey said:I really doubt they copy pasted many lines from the book - the book is fairly different. And the sympathetic storyline for the replicants is totally the movie only. Although it's been a long time since I read it. The only dialogue I really thought was cringe worthy was the narration - rest seemed fine to me. Especially if they were going for a film noir detective thing. That could have been so bad.You could look at the 'you play beautiful' thing as something that someone without a good ear for music and with his hands all over her would say.
Fair enough, one that sticks in the mind is when he's discussing the interview with whoever it was. (Right at the beginning.) That was technically really awful dialogue, and there was absolutely no way either Harrison Ford or the other guy could say it in way that didn't seem really awkward and unbelievable. Kinda hard to think specifics as I've not seen it for a few months.
The piano thing is just a hilarious bit of nitpicking. It's not really a big minus point against it. Just a humorous little aside.
But yeah, as I said I actually really like the film. I just don't think it's very successful.
gamingeek said:SteelAttack said:So...what exactly does Foolz like?I hear he sleeps with Half Life 2 under his pillow.
Yes, to prevent myself from ever accidentally playing that crap again.
Half-Life 2 I don't like however. I wanted to. It tried so hard to be good and interesting, but unfortunately failed miserably. I need to re-review it with me talking only about HL2 so i can lower the score accordingly as the Episodes are actually pretty fun.
Now, should I start on The Shawkshank Redemption and The Godfather?
[Bryant's office] Bryant: Hiya Deck. Deckard: Bryant. Bryant: You wouldn't have come if I just asked you to. Sit down pal. C'mon don't be an asshole Deckard. I've got four skin jobs walking the streets. Bryant: They jumped a shuttle off world killed the crew and passengers. They found the shuttle drifting off the coast two weeks ago so we know they're around. Deckard: Embarrassing. Bryant: No sir. Not embarrassing, because no one's ever going to find out they're down here. Because you're going to spot them, and you're going to air them out. Decakrd: I don't work here anymore. Give it to Holden, he's good. Bryant: I did. He can breath okay as long as nobody unplugs him. He's not good enough, not as good as you. I need you, Deck. This is a bad one, the worse yet. I need the old bladerunner, I need your magic. Deckard: I was quit when I came in here. I'm twice as quit now. Bryant: Stop right where you are. You know the score pal. If you're not cop, you're little people. Deckard: No choice, huh? Bryant: No choice pal. --- [Video room] Leon (video): I already had an IQ test this year, I don't think I've ever had one of these- Holden (video): Reaction time is a factor in this, so please pay attention. Now, answer as quickly as you can. Leon (video): Yeah, sure. Holden (video): 1-1-8-7 at Hunter-Vasser. Leon (video): Yeah, that's the hotel. Holden (video): What? Leon (video): Where I live. Holden (video): Nice place? Leon (video): Yeah, sure I guess-- Bryant: There was an escape from the off-world colonies two weeks ago. Six replicants, three male, three female. They slaughtered twenty-three people and jumped a shuttle. An aerial patrol spotted the ship off the coast. No crew, no sight of them. Three nights ago they tried to break into Tyrell Corporation. One of them got fried running through an electrical field. We lost the others. On the possibility they might try to infiltrate his employees, I had Holden go over and run Voight-Kampff tests on the new workers. Looks like he got himself one. Holden (video): So you look down you see a tortoise. It's crawling toward you. Leon (video): Tortoise, what's that? Holden (video): Know what a turtle is? Leon (video): Of course. Holden (video): Same thing. Leon (video): I've never seen a turtle. Deckard: I don't get it. What do they risk coming back to earth for? That's unusual. Why--what do they want from the Tyrell Corporation? Bryant: Well you tell me pal, that's what you're here for. Deckard: [funny look]. [pause] What's this? Bryant: Nexus 6. Roy Batty. Incept date 2016. Combat model. Optimum self-sufficiency. Probably the leader. This is Zhora. She's trained for an off-world kick-murder squad. Talk about beauty and the beast, she's both. The fourth skin job is Pris. A basic pleasure model. The standard item for military clubs in the outer colonies. They were designed to copy human beings in every way except their emotions. The designers reckoned that after a few years they might develop their own emotional responses. You know, hate, love, fear, envy. So they built in a fail-safe device. Deckard: Which is what? Bryant: Four year life span. Bryant: Now there's a Nexus 6 over at the Tyrell Corporation. I want you to go put the machine on it. Deckard: And if the machine doesn't work?
Seeing it written down can you remember if it's from the book? It seems alright written down, but a whole lot of dialogue that I've seen in scripts seems terrible, but is really great in the film so I'm not too great at visualising that. (It's different with plays, though as the dialogue is used to set the scene so you get more of the effect of it when you're just reading it.)
As for The Shawshank Redemption it wasn't so much anything technical that bugged me about it, but rather I found it really overly-sentimental, and as a result it was extremely corny. But that made me like it, don't get me wrong. (And I know lots of people love it for the sentimentality so that's fair enough. Though I've not seen too many people who think it's corny.)
Okay I just checked youtube it's the video room scene that I'm thinking of. Bryant's fine in it. Ford on the other hand...:X The whole thing seems completely forced to me. "Well I don't get it, I don't get why they risk coming back to earth for, that's unusual, why, what do they want out of the Tyrell corporation?" Less like a lack of focus and confusion, and more like Ford has no interest in the scene, rather than Deckard has no interest in the case. (And at that point the strangeness of the case seems like it has actually piqued his curiosity a little.) I'll admit that the editing of the cutting from the television to Bryant to Deckard could definitely make Ford more awkward, though it doesn't make Bryant. (Hooray for using character and actor names! ) Though Bryant is pretty much just staring with the one expression which is probably a bit easier to pull off.
And I'm not someone who is big on technique unless it gets in the way of somehin. Guest House Paradiso is one of my favourite films of all time.
Sorry about the typos that are no doubt here, but it's a bit hard to fix given that my typing continues off scren for some reason.
