Fuckkkkk Travo!  That was way too much of a spoiler and I saw it on the front page.  Great. So now I know Bonnie is the one to get raped and killed.

Yes that is exactly what happens. Just keep thinking that.

***SPOILERS***

***SPOILERS***

***SPOILERS***

***SPOILERS***

As art, I can see what they were doing with the fourth act, but for me, that ending was not worth the useless missions that lead up to it. I would have been just as satisfied (moreso) if they had told me after I killed Dutch that my child and wife were dead.  I have no problem with Marston dieing, none at all, but all those useless missions really did not add to the end.

LA Noire had a much more impactful ending for me (in terms of best endings of games this gen).

I have to say the fourth act of the game really tainted my experience, but even so, I think I'd have to give GOTY to RDR over the competition. I'll have to really think about it for a while.

That's bullshit. How many people (like me) figured that was the end of the game.

Okay, I'll go play it some more. FUCK.

Serioulsy, I've been riding around doing mission for random strangers. At some point something will happen? At this point, there is no way this is getting my GOTY 2010.

Yeah, there are a lot of them. I've done two so far. Fuck this game, I'm done with it.

This blog pretty much sums up my exact thoughts.

I'll go wait until I find this mission to officially beat the game, but what a horrible last couple of hours of an otherwise PERFECT game.

DId you not do them during the game? That is probably why there are many.

Eventually a purple question mark appeared which quickly lead to me going back down to Mexico after talking to dude's wife.  I then talk to his brother who says dude is fishing.

So I find him fishing in the water. I still had the lasso equipt from prior mission. So I lassoed him realized my error, changed toa shot gun and blew him away. Looted the body for $8.

"Great ending."

I figure, THAT CANNOT BE THE END OF THE GAME.

I went on Youtube, a cutscene then a duel was supposed to have occured. I don;t know if it was because I killed him before tripping the cutscene (probably) but whatever happened I received no trophy no credit roll, nothing.  Will see if it autosaved and try the last part again this morning.

EDIT: I loaded up my save and sure enough it was as though that had never happened, he was back in the river again, so got teh credit roll and cutscene.

Anyway, typically drama consists of three acts, not four, and this game had five. It would have been awesome if it ended with killing Dutch, or once you got to the farm, but dragging out the end with the Harvest Moonery diluted the game greatly.

Imagine if at the end of The Usual Suspects the movie then went on for another hour following around Keyser Soze doing his groceries, getting a ticket for using the car pool lane, sorting his laundry for colors and white, deleting his Tivo queue etc...

I thought that 4th act was brilliant. *spoilers forthcoming*

When the game started I knew John Marston was going to die at the end. This was set up as a classic "closing of the West" story. First rule of these stories is the hero dies. No exceptions. So when you get to those mundane family missions I completely got lulled into thinking that might not be the case. Maybe this daily kind of farm life would just be either the end or way of life he couldn't handle.

So when the feds showed up... I was as caught off-guard as he was.

^Oh no, see for me, as soon as they did that I was like, okay they are winding up for the punch and I was waiting for the worst possible scenarios.

So to talk abuot Marston's death, which again was entirely fitting, what do you think of his choice to "suicide-by-cop"? Was it a resignation that they would have just kept coming for him and it was his way to protect his family? Because he could have easily taken on such a small group had he been more strategic (as we did several times in the game to this point).

It was brilliant in classic western style to have the son many years later get revenge. Its incredible, what game lets you actually live the life of the hero, just be at piece for a while then have his life tragically end. Not only that but have the son grow up and see the world through his eyes and get revenge. Unlike anything I have played. Masterpiece of a story.

From a story perspective I have no problem with it. From a game structure perspective, again no problem. But like Mexico, the fourth act was too long -- it goes to that pacing concept I was talking about in the other thread. Two farm missions would have been enough.

I also have no problem with the son going killing, but it was a fair bit directionless. It would not have killed them to put a navigational hint on the map for you to ride to immediately after the mother burial scene.

You seem to have made the pacing of your game off somehow.  Did you play this in small chunks because all of those "mundane" tasks shouldn't have taken you but about fifteen minutes.  You made it seem as though drag forever.  Did you do the stranger's missions as you went along?

Like Vader said, I just thought it was an incredible way to end it.   Sorry for throwing you off with my Bonnie remark. Nyaa

No, I played the game in about 5 sittings (big chunks).

EDIT: on the  fourth act you do three missions for Abigail, four for jack and two for uncle (way more than 15 minutes worth).

It shouls have been, one for Abi, two or three for jack, FUCK uncle.

Yeah I think you kind of nailed it his death. It's just him accepting that they won't stop coming, but maybe he can save his family. I was a little disappointed he didn't take one last shot at the main fed guy, but I suppose Jack took care of that.
