Nintendo has announced that Punch Out is coming to the Wii on May 18th.

Not a lot of details have been announced aside from the date and this little blurb from a Nintendo rep:

"It will be interesting to see too how gamers react. I think they're going to react great to the motion control capabilities of the Wii with that game because you're used to hitting buttons and doing your blocks and your throws and kind of dodging out of the way, but now you can do all that with your own body, so it's going to feel you're right there as a boxer." - Charlie Scibetta, Senior Dir. of Corporate Communications, Nintendo of America

So it sounds like they're opting for more of a Wii Boxing style rather than the traditional controls from the NES and SNES.  I hope that they do a good job, as I was never 100% impressed with the boxing controls on Wii Sports.

Also the following boxers have been mentioned or shown in previews:

Glass Joe

Von Kaiser

King Hippo

Soda Popinski

No word has been mentioned if any new boxers are showing up, but I really hope so.  Half the fun of Punch-Out was seeing what insane boxer was next.  But if it's all the same let's just leave Don Flamenco retired.

The difficulty is putting me off this one.

Is there an easy setting? Nyaa

You can lose 100 times and get the headgear.

I hate to admit it but finally broke down and used it for Bald Bull during title defense.  First time I used it, I beat him.  It makes a huge difference for how many punches you can take but more importantly that'll give you a little extra time to settle down with your timing so you can be competitive.

Of course it's also a sign of weakness. . . Sad

As far as my own update I coasted by Super Macho Man after Bald Bull (didn't use the headgear for 'Mach) and now I'm stuck at Sandman.

I don't have that many losses yet, but I may have to get it sooner than you.  These title defenses are killer.

Cheater! Nyaa

Sandman is really easy as well. Punch him when he winks, if you punch the eye that he winks with you get a star. You can get three stars so easy. Once you knock him down twice he goes into beserk winking mode, he will have a tiny bit of life left, the way to finally beat him is to punch him as he winks until he goes down, HE WILL NOT STOP until you do this. Don't try to star punch him or dodge his attacks, the only way to beat him is to punch him as he winks before he does his attack.

It's been a slow crawl to the finish, but I finally made it to Soda Pop in the TD.  Of course, I havent's played every day, but I will finish this.

Soda Popinski was the only opponent in Title Defense mode that I genuinally did not find that hard to beat.  It took me a couple fights, but I got him down pretty quickly in the first round once I figured out the trick.

Keep at it, and when you get to Bald Bull try not to cry.

I must admit, I did feel like crying.  I think I figured him out, but it'll be a few days before I can get back to the action.
