Now things are getting interesting.

IGN eyes on trailer and screens

A lone warrior chopping through an army of robotic warriors with an outsized Cloud Strife-like energy sword. Colossal war machines advancing though a misty canyon, shooting anything that moves. The few remaining human defenders hiding behind simple wooden shields that are no match for high-energy weapons. Welcome to the world of Monado.

The debut trailer for Monado: Beginning of the World premiered today at E3: 2009, and first impressions for the new Wii RPG are that the beginning is going to be pretty exciting. Things kick off with that canyon-set battle, revealing more and bigger enemies with an interesting steampunk design. Things likely don't end well for our lone warrior, as we soon segue to a young blonde hero discovering that energy sword - now inert - only to see it flash blindingly to life the moment he picks it up. Your standard JRPG Hero's Journey (tm) is definitely in full effect here, with just a dash of King Arthur.

Gameplay appears to be open-world, where you'll traverse lush jungles, glowing forests, climb sheer walls, and encounter the crumbling remains of a conquered people. It looks nicely textured and details pop, animating at what looks like a smooth 30 fps.

Players will pick up two partners in their travels, and while combat initially looks turn-based, we saw all three party members attacking simultaneously. Transitions into combat are completely seamless; characters approach enemies, draw weapons, and it's on. One scene showed your team (wielding much smaller edged weaponry) surrounding a lizard-man enemy, who didn't make much of a dent in their lifebars before it was downed. A much larger lizard-man (a good twenty feet tall) and giant mutant crab monster probably fared better.

Why would they need to go from planet to planet?  it could play out on the 'original state universe' as you call it.  It'd be a new place to discover anyway.  I'm thinking it'll be the same place, but set after the events of Xenoblade.

In the end, Alvis comments how rich and vast the new created universe is. It would be weird that a direct sequel would not explore themes about a rich and vast universe. And who would be the baddie, you just killed God?! An alien invader or something?! That would be anti-climatic!

How about the God of an alien invader?  Nyaa

I don't know, I think that stuff like space travel would break up the feeling of geographical belonging that Xenoblade had.  Also, it's not that because a God has perrished, that no one else could try to take his place.

Yeah Dunban was sweet probably my favorite too. Reyn is great in the lovable yet slight dumb kind of way. Riki is fantastic. Shulk makes a decent hero. The women especially fiora are all great. But yeah Dunban is the most badass of all.

Shulk is the first time I have seen where the main here is smart and nerdy. He is a scientist, engineer type. Usually these characters are supporting characters, while the big dumb heroes with power of self confidence are the main characters in all Japanese media.

Melia is my favorite female character. Her father gets killed. Her stepmother tries to assassinate her. Almost everyone she knows get transformed in a beast, who she is forced to kill. And her love interest (Shulk) gets reunited with his thought to be dead girlfriend. And she never ever complains. What a trooper. There are some sidequests and heart to hearts that further flesh out her character.

Sharla is the motherly figure, but I like her mostly for her tits.

Fiora is a cool character to control, but character wise she is a bit bland. Shulk is also kinda bland so they belong together I guess.

Riki is the heropon. That is all you need to know.

Reyn, is Reyn. Funny and a big oaf. It is Reyn time baby. He and Shulk have a great bromance going.

Melia's voice actress

Jenna-Louise Coleman. Huba huba huba

BTW if you ever play the game again. Switch to the Japanese voices. Egil sound like a badass. And Dunban is Vegeta! My first playthrough was in Japanese, the next one will be in English.

I think we need picture of all of the voice actors japanese and english to determine which one is the hottest. For scientific purposes only, of course!
