IGN eyes on trailer and screens

A lone warrior chopping through an army of robotic warriors with an outsized Cloud Strife-like energy sword. Colossal war machines advancing though a misty canyon, shooting anything that moves. The few remaining human defenders hiding behind simple wooden shields that are no match for high-energy weapons. Welcome to the world of Monado.

The debut trailer for Monado: Beginning of the World premiered today at E3: 2009, and first impressions for the new Wii RPG are that the beginning is going to be pretty exciting. Things kick off with that canyon-set battle, revealing more and bigger enemies with an interesting steampunk design. Things likely don't end well for our lone warrior, as we soon segue to a young blonde hero discovering that energy sword - now inert - only to see it flash blindingly to life the moment he picks it up. Your standard JRPG Hero's Journey (tm) is definitely in full effect here, with just a dash of King Arthur.

Gameplay appears to be open-world, where you'll traverse lush jungles, glowing forests, climb sheer walls, and encounter the crumbling remains of a conquered people. It looks nicely textured and details pop, animating at what looks like a smooth 30 fps.

Players will pick up two partners in their travels, and while combat initially looks turn-based, we saw all three party members attacking simultaneously. Transitions into combat are completely seamless; characters approach enemies, draw weapons, and it's on. One scene showed your team (wielding much smaller edged weaponry) surrounding a lizard-man enemy, who didn't make much of a dent in their lifebars before it was downed. A much larger lizard-man (a good twenty feet tall) and giant mutant crab monster probably fared better.

God dammit GG watch the spoilers.

Another tip do not listen to GG, heck do not even read his posts. He is spoiling stuff already.

GG has not even finished the game, I pretty much did everything.

When I tell you to dump Reyn I mean it. Another character will do what he does much better.

The things you are regard as spoilers. lol

It's like I could say, yeah on day 4 when the sun rises......... you'd be like: Damn you spoiled that the sun will rise in the sky like it does every other day! DO NOT READ!

I will delete it now.

I beat the strongest enemies in the game with no healer at all. That enemy was 21 levels higher than me. Switching characters would do nothing, If the AI has already used the art, you would not be able to use it even if you switched to it. It would be nice if you could order some arts to be held back and then use them when you want. Or a co-op mode like in Secret of Mana would also work.

But that thing was a huge spoiler. I was surprised when I found it.

Yeah the problem is I cant tell if it was used so it becomes a guess if I should try to break an opponent. Or when a buff should come into play, etc.

Oh I got some elemental powers, this game tells me nothing about them. I dont see any indication on enemies to tell if an element is strong or weak on them. So what do I do?

I guess when you first hear it.

But remember that you spend the next 70-100 hours knowing about it so it fades into insignificance. Nyaa

Okay, I give, good call on that one.

Yes I got him, I see what you are saying. Bye Reyn.

Elemental attacks, I have gems that give lighting attacks or protect against earth attacks, etc. How the hell am I supposed to know if this is useful against enemies.

That new character is about agility, agility and agility. Give him armour to increase agility, pick skill tree to increase agility and use agility boosting gems. Now watch him dodge everything, while keeping the enemies focus on him. With him you don't need a healer, Shulk is enough to heal him. Dump the healer!

Those gems are not important. Only used the lighting one on a character you do not have yet.

So why have elemental abilities at all. I am just finding a few things  to be a bit messy in the combat side. FF games have always been very elegant, very structured, everything is well explained and has a purpose. Here there are already to many arts you dont use, you have no control of your AI partners, elements that dont do anything. There is no enemy encyclopedia that tells you what their weaknesses and strengths are, that has always been a big part of JRPGs.

Question about having more than 3 in your party, does the character sitting out still get exp or is it one of those games where I will have to sub them in to get them exp.
