Coming: 2010
From IGN's Interview: "Reggie Fils-Aime on the Record"
IGN: You have a bit more insight on the development of Galaxy 2. What's the direction for the game? Do they really want to blow it out or will it be more of the same?
Reggie: What Mr. Miyamoto has shared is that if the first Galaxy was maybe more inviting in terms of all the audiences, what Galaxy 2 is going to be is maybe a little more Nintendo fan / harder gamer focused. A little tougher. The use of Yoshi makes it a little more challenging. We showed some of the snippets of some of the activities -- it's a bit more challenging. It's going to be, if you will, for more of that passionate Mario fan who grew up getting challenged with Super Mario World. It's going to be much more in that area.
From "Shigeru Miyamoto Roundtable LiveBlog"
"With Super Mario Galaxy, it's the first time we really worked with spherical worlds and we had a lot of ideas about how to use gravity. However, when we finished the game, we realized there were a ton of ideas we just couldn't fit in," he says.
More than 90 percent of what you will see in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is all brand new. Maybe even 95 percent . . . Galaxy 2 contains roughly the same amount of content as the original.
Galaxy 2 is very, very far along, but since Nintendo has New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it's going to hold off and keep Galaxy 2 for next year. :(
WTF... WTF all this time I had beat your crappy time and you have made me feel like a loser. DAMN YOU!!
I got down to like 2:13 before watching the video. Your test was 2:00 not 2:30, that is why I thought you were crazy.
Well now that I know I am playing against a mortal it's on. Lets do this.
It seems I am not the only one that has trouble reading.
See 2:30. The test was too see if you could find the shortcuts. I did not even play that much I was just waiting for your time. Still think that we should be able to go below 2:00. Especially after watching that video.
What we are witnessing here is the mating dance of the Mario Galaxy fan.
They are seconds away from inflating their testicles like this bird.
I swear as I was trying for 2:00 I was cursing you wondering what kind of sadistic test you have given me. I was wondering if this was a test what the hell will an actual run be like, I would have to break the game as if I were Neo.
Holy mother of God
I could do that.
I choose not to.
Okay playing the game again, but this time with Luigi. It is still fun, there are so many awesome levels in the game and going through them with a fast pace while doing some shortcuts that are shown in the video above, or some that are not shown, is simply awesome.
After playing DKC2 I realized the game level structure would work perfectly in a 3D Mario game. In DKC2 you have a level with an end goal, like all 2D Mario's, but there is more. In every level a DK token is hidden. This is like the comet medal coins in Galaxy 2. But there are also between 1-3 bonus rooms. These rooms have mini games, like find the token, collect the stars and destroy all enemies. If you finish these rooms you get a special coin that can be used to open secret levels. A bit like Star Coins in NSMBWii.
This system could also be used in 3d Mario's. You have a end goal like in 2D Mario's and all the minigame-like star missions, like destroy all enemies, could be in the level after you find either a secret room or perhaps a character that asks you to clean the trash or some other thing. Complete it and you get a coin or something else, and then you go on with the level. These coins would be used for unlocking stuff. This way you can have the level progression like 2D Mario's, while still keeping the variety of races, skating challenges and comet challenges like in the 3d Mario's.
