From IGN's Interview: "Reggie Fils-Aime on the Record"
IGN: You have a bit more insight on the development of Galaxy 2. What's the direction for the game? Do they really want to blow it out or will it be more of the same?
Reggie: What Mr. Miyamoto has shared is that if the first Galaxy was maybe more inviting in terms of all the audiences, what Galaxy 2 is going to be is maybe a little more Nintendo fan / harder gamer focused. A little tougher. The use of Yoshi makes it a little more challenging. We showed some of the snippets of some of the activities -- it's a bit more challenging. It's going to be, if you will, for more of that passionate Mario fan who grew up getting challenged with Super Mario World. It's going to be much more in that area.
From "Shigeru Miyamoto Roundtable LiveBlog"
"With Super Mario Galaxy, it's the first time we really worked with spherical worlds and we had a lot of ideas about how to use gravity. However, when we finished the game, we realized there were a ton of ideas we just couldn't fit in," he says.
More than 90 percent of what you will see in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is all brand new. Maybe even 95 percent . . . Galaxy 2 contains roughly the same amount of content as the original.
Galaxy 2 is very, very far along, but since Nintendo has New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it's going to hold off and keep Galaxy 2 for next year. :(
I did not watch youtube. Read my first impressions, I found most short cuts during my first play through. Read it if you don't believe me!
Don't watch youtube, it is much more fun finding all these short cuts by yourself. After you found a bunch then watch, to see what others did
Wait, you can butt stomp the boss?! Holy shit. Did not know that.
Hmm, with that technique I could probably shave a second from my best time. Heck my best run was nowhere near perfect.
My best time is 1:21:29
What?! Save a second, you can save 10 seconds easily. The but stomp automatically destroys the shell in one hit.
That is your time, you are doing something the youtube video didnt do. I didn't know you could skip the toad talking sequence. Everything else I kind of figured on my own, I just need to execute better. Oh and I didn't know that you should be Luigi.
Ok you are a master and I am not worthy. I will try again but this is brutal.
I did not even use Luigi
And toad talking bit, what's that?! Maybe I should play the level normally, because I think I always skipped that part.
Here comes my sequence.
First I immediately go towards the house. Backflip, wall jump and spin up there. Or you can even do the side cartwheel jump. Once up, the luma immediately start talking. Then I use the launch star to go to the next section.
In the next section, I use a double jump to land on the platform behind the Octoomba. Then I long jump to the right, quickly followed by a triple jump. This launches me on a ridge of the house.
Then I backflip up and backflip again over another Octoomba and finally backflip once more to jump over a slope. Then if I did everything correctly, one of the platforms of the tower will be in a lower position. I quickly triple jump and land on a disappearing platform. From there it is again backflip wall jump spin up there. Sometimes I actually have to wait for the Luma to arrive. Use the launch star to land on a small planet.
On the small planet, I backflip immediately, towards the launch star and launch myself immediately, you will fly to another launch star and you have to shake the wiimote again.
If you are lucky the next section moving platform on wheels will be in front on you. Immediately long jump spin to land on it. Long jump again, and once more to get to the Luma. Long jump once more to get to the launch star.
Then immediately move backwards, triple jump to reach the final launch star. The last part I beat the boss very quickly, three hits and then hit his ass, and do it again.
Yeah I did all that, I don't understand how you could do that and get the time you got. You probably executed it better but from what I could tell better execution would only save me 10 seconds at max. The boss trick I saw on youtube is the only way I thought a 1:30 time to be feasible.
Of course, I restart every time I die. I'll see if I can find you the youtube video. He does almost everything you do and destorys the boss quickly using the butt stomp trick and he got a worst time than you. I dont get it.
What part of Iga = God don't you understand?! Sure Fedor has fallen, but Iga is still Iga.
Where's the video? Show it to me!
Vader, crawl out crawl out where ever you are!
Where is my video?
Okay I tried Sky Station star 1 again. This time with Luigi and the butt stomping boss beating knowledge. But I failed hard, Luigi is no good. Yes, he is faster, but it takes ages to get him up to speed. Screw that back to Mario.
I did a perfect run, twice I had to wait for the Luma. I was so fast that the Luma, you normally have to follow, was following me. But they go faster when you are in front. The boss I beat with butt stomps. It did not go that much faster than my normal routine and I even go hit once. But I used my short window of invulnerability to butt stomp him again.
And my time, well it was
2:14:30!!
I even think 2:13 is possible. By butt stomping the boss faster and not getting hit.
There are few things that work against a better time. You having to wait for Luma's twice and having to wait for the rolling platform once. I am done with this level, not really that suited for time trials. Will try to utterly trash your time next.
P.S. I found a huge shortcut in Yoshi Star Galaxy star 1. Do you want to hear it?
Wow, I made a typo. My best time was 2:21:26. Not 1:21:29.
I was wondering why you think I was that good, the 2:21 time was not that impressive. I thought you watched a crappy guy play.
Well my new best time is 2:14:30, but OMG on the guy that 1:44. Yeah not even trying that once, he's too good. Heck even there there was room for improvement. I say 1:43 must be possible.
What was your best time? Did you even beat the 2:30 test?
