As I mentioned earlier, I'm hosting another video game panel at a local convention here in Orlando. Originally when I became a part of it I suggested my usual video game trivia show, but they didn't seem overly interested. Ultimately it was decided I'd run a classic cartoon showroom instead, which was good by me. However, it turns out there's going to be a bigwig from EA Sports who will be attending, and he's going to talk about that cancelled basketball game they didn't release from a few years back. Since they had him, now they asked if I'd throw down with a video game panel too. Yikes! I'm still happy to do it, but that only leaves me a little over a month to get my shit together. Needless to say I'm a bit nervous.

So with that being said it's time to break out the little black book and find out if I know anyone in the business anymore. I know my Atlus contact left. I'm crossing my fingers my Capcom one is still around. In the meantime I have to start hitting the phones and internet again for contact info. If anyone would like to place their bets on who writes me back, who helps me out, and who says fuck you, this will be the place.

And I have a few more to add to the list from my attempts yesterday:

  • WayForward
  • Blizzard
  • TellTale
  • Renegade Kid
  • Tecmo Koei

How desperate am I that I'm reaching out to Renegade Kid. Yikes. At any rate I did get an autoresponder from WayForward (the rep was on vacation). Other than that I must admit I'm getting just a bit disheartened. Hopefully I'll hear back from another company next week.

I remember a couple of years ago I reached out to Nintendo because I was doing a school project documentary about the History of Nintendo video game systems. They responded a week after I contacted them saying that I didn't have permission. They also didn't tell me I couldn't complete the project I just didn't have permission.

I wanted permission to use footage I captured with a capture card and do a voice over talking about that game. I picked 1 game for every system.

I reached out to Nintendo once before for something like this, but it was for a horror related show, and I asked for promo material for Luigi's Mansion. I knew it was a long-shot, but that time they responded fairly quickly and said something to the extent of "we get requests like this all the time, so no. And please stop wasting out time." It was probably a bit more polite than that, but that's what I got out of it.

I got the same message. They also said in mine that eventhough you don't have our permission it doesn't mean you can't still do it.

I figured since it was a student project and I wasn't planning on making money I would just make it anyway.

I finally got another response for this. A company called Gonzo Games offered me 10 Steam codes for Q*Bert Rebooted. Who knew a new Q*bert game was out?? Apparently it's classic Qbert with a second version that's kind of like Candy Crush. Anyway, pretty cool of them to throw down.
